Has anyone read The Stranger by Albert Camus? the book is weird but its' awesome. I Highly reccomend it
s'funny I just mentioned Albert Camus in another thread. The Outsider (as I read it) is fantastic, I was completely obsessed with it for a while - I did my degree dissertation on Camus so I had to study it, as wel as the plauge and some others
Yes, I found it to be really boring. Maybe if I was in a different time, when existentialism was a new and upcoming philosophy 'The Stranger' (the copy I read was called, 'The Stranger') might have had more appeal. It wasn't bad. Just really pointless. It was like reading a day in my life or in anybody elses mind, for that matter - the modern identity, i say, the modern identity.
Haven't made up my mind if I liked it or not yet. There are a few parts where I didn't quite catch the significance, like what was the point behind the story of the innkeepers who mistakenly murder their son for his money? (or something like that, it's been a while). P.S. to all the people who haven't read it... don't worry, I didn't spoil anything. It's just a minor subplot.
I attempted to read The Plague, but two things happened: 1.) I lost interest plain and simple 2.) I started reading The DaVinci Code
Lol, I remember reading the book shortly after hearing it was where the song "Killing an Arab" by the Cure was derived. It was interesting, I have had very in depth conversations about the books message on other forums.
i picked it up really randomly at the library and read it. i loved it. i didn't even know it was supposed to be existentionalism. I loved it because the guy thought exactly the same way i think. i told my mom, who had also read it when she was younger (i found out) and she told me it was about existentialism. i can see how someone would see it as boring if they really didn't get that it was about how he thinks.
i think its great it took me a while to really get into it but it really is an amazing book camus did an awesome job showing how unattached meursault is in his own life.
