I just watched this on vh1. it was a well-done documentary. the best the band has ever put out. its more than just watching metallica record in the studio, its more about life. I was quite impressed. I got a whole new perspective on metallica after watching that. IM still pissed that jason left though.

Yeah I just finished watching it too. I used to be really into Metallica and the whole metal scene but haven't listened to them since that album came out actually. I think a film like that shows how much blood & tears go into a band and making an album...maybe more people won't be so quick to criticize St. Anger. Lars' dad is pretty cool too.

exactly. I was a huge metallica fan (I was even a member of the fan club) until lars pretty much pissed on all the fans that made them famous with the whole napster deal. then jason left, which was the only person who actually gave two shits about the fans. I have all the metallica albums except for st anger. and watching the documentary on how it came about just really blew my mind. like you said, there was alot of blood sweat and tears put into that. and to make such an aggressive album with mostly positive energy is unheard of. I really recommend this movie to not only metallica fans, but anyone who may be dealing with issues in their personal lives.

I was one of those quick to criticize that album. I downloaded the whole thing (how ironic), gave it a couple of listens, and dismissed it as crap. now after watching the making of that album, I have a whole new respect for it.

Lars dad kicks ass. he is like one of those garden gnomes.

I agree with most of what's been said. I think it was good to see that kind of "warts 'n all" side of the band.

You can't help but get engrossed with these types of fly-on-the-wall films, though..

    ...I can't stand Metallica.

A few years ago, after they sued napster, I downloaded their 20 most popular songs (the top 20 listed on Napster when you search for "Metallica"), burned them onto cd's, and then found enough stupid Metallica fans who wanted to buy those cd's from me. Made me over $500 :H

I then wrote a letter to the band... no reply yet :(
