I recently became vegetarian a couple weeks ago and i love it except for the fact that i dont feel like have very much energy any suggestions?
you need more protein...you may want to start taking a multi vitamin...i've been a veggie for 4 years and i find that when ever i am lacking in energy i need more protein or something...make sure your diet is nice and balanced.
I would say make sure you are eating enough low GI carbs (low on the glycemic index)...carbs that are slowly released and dont spike your blood sugars. I get really tired with no energy when i eat hi GI foods. Meat slows down the digestion of carbs in a meal, so maybe when we stop eating meaty stuff the GI value of meals goes up. i dont know for sure but i think this is what happened with me. Its healthier to eat low GI stuff anyhow. thers heaps of stuff on the net about the GI of foods. i find when i do make an effort to eat low gi food i have more energy and feel way better.
The same thing happened to me too. I became vegetarian about 2 months ago and lately I've been extremely tired and I haven't had any energy at all. It was weird, but now it's starting to go away. I think you just need to make sure your eating healthy foods and getting enough protein. I think for me I just wasn't getting enough protein.
I had a really bad cold a bit ago, It was because my body wasn't constituted from not eating enough protein. Just try to eat a wide variety of foods, or take a multi-vitamin with it.
OK guys, I really think you don't need to worry about getting too little protein. There are like 3 people living in the US with a protein deficiency (and the total population is, what, 270 million?). And they have a metabolism problem of some sort. If you eat eggs and dairy, chances are you'll be getting waaaaaay more protein than you really need. I had the same thing with lack of energy when I switched to vegetarian, except I was eating eggs, dairy, and soy and peas like crazy (they're all full of protein). My problem was, well, I was eating too many over-processed foods, I mean, I'll go and grab a veggie burger (not that bad, actually) and fries... I'll eat until I'm completely full and I think I'll barf, and within like 2 hours time, I feel that I'm starving. I had to eat several times a day... lol.. like 7-8 (9?) times, but small amounts of food. I think I might have gotten a bit irritating at school, where I had to run off to the playground every break and get something to eat, because I would faint otherwise. Now, I don't even have that problem anymore, I mean, I'm eating the regular 5 times a day meals, and not feeling energy drained. Plus, I'm losing weight!!! I try to squeeze in a salad every day, just something to munch on, lately it's been just tomatoes and olives, I've been trying to get some lettuce. A salad can't really give you all that much energy but it's healthy and yummy As far as my meals, I try to eat a vegetable soup every day, I've been experimenting with stuff like zucchini, mushrooms, stuff that you wouldn't probably find in an ordinary vegetable soup. Mmmmmmmmm and potato soup... that does wonders for me (just boil potatoes and pour in a little tomato juice... mmmmmmmm heavenly). For breakfast I try to have some fruit and some bread, I know bread isn't the healthiest thing in the world, but it fills me up and gives me energy . There, I hope you feel more energetic soon Also worth mentioning, when I started cutting out dairy and eggs from my diet, especially milk, I felt much better.
Having low iron can make you feel tired, make sure you include some cereal and green veg you should be fine
Well, if you are Vegan (don't eat use, or wear anything from an animal) than you could use soymilk, ricemilk, almondmilk, juice, etc. on your cereal, or you could just eat it dry. Most vegitarians are not vegan though, and are comfortible with having dairy in their diet. I would say that iron very well may be your problem. You may just need to eat more dark leafy greens. Spinach is an excellent source of iron, but anything green will work, the greener the better! Greens aren't the only plants with iron, but they are very high in it, so they are an easy way to go. Also, processed foods and eating more frequently is key, as was mentioned before. Meat is difficult for you to digest, so it takes a long time. Therefore, when you are not eating it your food will digest faster, and you will become hungry sooner. Eating smaller meals more frequently is much healthier for you! Dairy has the same efect, but not to such a large digree. When you are eating whole foods you will feel better than you ever have!
