Ok, as we were talking about school work in another thread, I thought I'd make a desperate plea to you all for a bit of help with a piece of coursework I'm doing at the moment.
I know there are a few buddhists among us, and I'm sure there are a few more who know a lot about buddhism, so you guys could give me hand.
I chose a question on buddhism for my Philosophy and Ethics coursework, but I've left my research a bit last minute.
    My question is...
Examine Buddhism's contribution to the animal rights debate.
Pretty awesome question, I just need some more specific things to look at really. Any suggestions???
    Ta very much,
    Rosie x

That's awesome Claire, yet again you proove to be a legend! :)

Luckily, I have that book, The Great Compassion, and its awesome, very interesting. The author is pretty damn ambition though, as he wants to create a completely vegan America....good luck to him! I would recommend that book, I think you'd enjoy it Claire, as a fellow vegan, its full of disturbing facts that remind you of all the reasons you aren't eating cheeseburgers anymore!

    Thanks again :D

    Yeh will do thanks :)

I've done a little (and I mean avery little) bit of reading on buddhism but never really read anything on the relationship between buddhism and animal rights or indeed being veggie.

I might ask the question when I go to the retreat in May. I'd be very interested in reading your report when you finish it if that's not too cheaky :p

H.H. the Dalai Lama has written some very good books, specifically the art of happiness is one that springs to mind as i really enjoyed it, took on board alot of what he said and believe my life has changed for the better for it. it's something i'd recommend even to those who aren't doing last minute essays.

as for the question you asked, i'm afraid i cant be alot of help, but good luck anyway!

    peace and love

Retreat? Which retreat would this be, it sounds interesting.

As for those sites, I've just read through them in detail and have got some amazing notes from them that will be really useful in my essay, thank you so much!

It's the local monastry in Todmorden, they do weekend retreats every month or so. I go once a month on a Friday evening but this will be my first retreat *bites nails* :)

Glad the links were helpful :)
