Yup, a serious post from me. I think this is only the fourth since I registered... My mum works for an old lady who we'll call Jean. My mum is sort of an unofficial home help. Jean has no family except a God-daughter who lives in Scarborough, and never visits her. Jean gets the regular official NHS helpers, but my mum is the one that Jean calls whenever she has a problem. And I mean whenever. 7:30pm? Yep. 4am? Yep. Anyway, recently my mum found out that she's been put as "Next of Kin" for Jean. The problem is, she's not exactly sure of what this entails. I need to find out what duties a person's next of kin has to carry out. So far we know that she'll have to fill out the forms regarding Jean's passing, when the time comes. Can anyone help? And is there any way to change the next of kin? To cut a long story short, my mum has enough on her plate without having to fill those stupidly long forms out... thanks for any help
Well.. next of kin in my eyes is the person the authorities will call if say she was in hospital and stuff like that.. and maybe a few forms I'm not sure.. and she more than likely will get everything of hers on her passing.. like house and belongings.. Also.. my mum is next of Kin to my nan who is in hospital and they havent asked her to fill out any forms or anything like that.. they just ring every so often with progress reports.. I dont think its anything to time consuming
i would imagine that when this lady passes on then your mum may have to deal with sorting things out, but if this woman has no family atall then theres probably not going to be that much to sort out, just informing banks etc of her death, returning her passport and those sorts of things. peace and love stardust xxx
