Guitar Amps

  1. Alright, there are a lot of people here who play guitar, so I look for advice, I need something that is in 30w range that sounds nice and is fairly versatile (I'd like to be able to play from blues to metal) I've been using my saturn as my guitar amp and that's just not practical, So can anyone tell me about a good small practice amp?

No. Marshall amps, unless they're AVT/JCM series or a plexi or bluesbreaker, are teh suck.

    Peavey Classic 30 or something...

    I HATE PEAVYS!!!!!

Its just coz at school, i always get stuck with them and they are the smallest shittiest amps that the music department have, and no-one is willing to share multiple input amps so im left with something that i could almost fit in my pocket.

But back on topic, if you can find yourself an old marshall from a pawn shop or something, get it. They're made to last, and give out a very clean sound. And if you dont like your amps sound, a pedal can always be handy.

Heh...those aren't the classic 30. The classic 30 and some of Peavey's tube amps are some of the best and lowest priced amps for the money ever produced. I've compared them to many amps and have worked on them before. I play a Fender Cyber-Twin, and I often use the Blues Combo (Marshall Bluesbreaker/Les Paul). I generally do not use many effects. A distortion/fuzz/compression or a wah, sometimes with delay... sometimes in combination. I'd reccomend the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.

I wouldn't reccomend a Marshall for a 30 watt amp because anything Marshall makes that is solid state isn't really worth it. You'll mostly be paying for the name and many people don't think about that... It's only the fact that Hendrix, Clapton, and several others popularized them.

I'd also reccomend Carvin amps. Why do people always say "if you like your amps sound, a pedal can be handy"... effects shouldn't be for covering up your amps sound or your playing. It just won't work.

Now, if we're talking a rather clean high-priced amp like a twin-reverb or a vibroverb with an Ibanez TS-808 or a TS-9 or something, that's a different story... but if we're talking marshall MG series with a DOD distortion, it just isn't going to happen. I have heard so many stupid ideas as a technician and that has been one of the lamest excuses ever that they pull at Guitar Center. That's why I can't stand guitar center. Effects aren't meant to cover up a shitty amp's sound. I wouldn't jump the gun and get a cheap amp and buy by impulse. I'd rather save up for something nicer. :p
