Hey fellow dreadies, I was jsut thinking about myself when my hair first started to lock, (3 years ago) and how immature I was then, not only my hair was immature, I was, I imagine many of you feel the same way about when you were younger, but the point I'm getting at is do you feel that your dread growth coincides with your spiritual growth, in other words, do you feel that you would be as spiritually healthy as you are today if you never had the experience of having locks. This question also goes for former dreadies, but the question for former dreadies is the opposite, do you feel you would be as spiritually healthy as you are today if you never cut your locks. Peace. Love to you all, and happy trails.:)

I totally agree. I have grown some much spiritually since I started my locks. I started my locks for all the wrong reasons, but with them I have totally changed, not only my outlook on life, but my life all together.

    Ummmmm. No..

If I was to cut my locks off, I would not change in any way.. but I would not have dreadlocks.. I would continue to grow spiritually.

as for getting to where i am now (in a spiritual sense) I could have done it just as well with out my locks.. but since they have joined me along my journey and grow and change as i do.. i love them and respect them.. but as for assistance... none really. there just so special to me cause they have been with me.....
there only spiritual to me cause im spiritual to my self. and they help me stay connected with my self.. but many many people just get dreads simply cause they look beautiful.

I got mine for wrong reasons.. soon realizing and understanding about the lessons to learn.. but as for my actual spiritual growth… they have just been a great full head of companions

hey buddha, i think my question was misunderstood, i didnt mean would you be a different person with or without locks, but i meant does the locking process help you grow spiritually as your hair grows physically. I would not be any different with or without locks, if i said that i would be a hypocrite, but locks are a journey, and that journey involves change. I am not the same person as when I had no locks, but this is because of the combination of time and realization of things in my life locking, and unlocking just as my hair naturally does. I hope you understand my question better now. That question was a bit hard to get across the way i wanted it to, but maybe this will clarify things a bit. I did not mean do they help you grow spiritually, but i meant that the journey of life, as the journey of locks involves change. change that would be different depending on certain things. the change could come from something as insignificant as me not tieing my hair up one day. locks are a physical thing, but physical things can be tied to spiritual things in many ways. If I had no locks, i would be the same person, but if i cut my locks, the future would without a doubt have different circumstances than if i had locks, no matter if the circumstances were good or bad, happy or sad, they would be different.

Change is inevitable, journeys involve change, dreads are a journey, dreads involve change, change is inevitable, embrace change, embrace journeys, embrace your beautiful locks, embrace life, and embrace the beautiful people of this world. Peace and have a wonderfuly knatty evening bro:)

one thing that i did notice about my dreadies, is that it has strenghted my relationship with my hunny. he was rather horrified when he first saw my hair after dreading it (i'm the first person that he has ever known with dreads, so it was a big surprise!) we live in a little fishing village in the middle of nowhere and everyone dresses in a similar style, wears their hair in a similar manner....ect. and being different there is definitly frowned upon.....so it was hard for him. the elderly people gaping when we go to the store, the comments from his family....but he accepts it and is getting comfortable with my hair. funny, call me naive, but i never realized how much people judge you according to hair. anyway, please excuse the rambling, it is 7am and i have been up all night! he has always been very supportive and accepting of me and this has just helped us to grow further together. now that he's getting more used to them, he even finds them sexy. lol

That is wonderful, its like dreads are connected to so many things. As your dreads strengthen, your relationship follows. And please ramble as much as you would like. Ramblin isa wonderful thing. Peace and good thoughts for the future.:)

Yeah dreads are a journey that involves change, and so does my spiritual growth and my life in general. Yes they do grow and change as my spiritual life grows and strengthens. (i have learned ALOT from my dreads) which helps me with some of my spiritual growth, but nothing that i wouldn’t have learned if i didn’t have my locks..

i guess i still dont understand what your trying to say heheh sorry.... be fore i was looking at this as just answered to just this:

And to this I say: yes I would be just as spiritually healthy if i didn’t have the experience.

(doesn’t mean there not spiritual connected to me, cause they are in sooo many ways) on a hole different level… they help me and empower me. but its just my illusion.
