Oh no everyone gets in on the fun In the most literal sense Beltane was originally Celtic (Irish as far as I can tell) but got shared around by almost all cultures. Being based on agriculture most of them do.
Much much much older than Ireland. And the association between Celts and Ireland is latter-day. It's where the last vestiges of the Celts settled 1000 years ago, and were thinned out even further by vikings, Britons, Romans, Franks, etc. Celts kick ass; a tribe that held the entire Roman Empire at bay for 7 months... http://www.ibiblio.org/gaelic/celts.html
bah, humbug! i hate beltane. too much soppy drippy googly-eyed love shit & frolicking in the bushes. humbug, i say! (yes, i am still having relationship issues.)
*sigh* does it show that much? (decapitates "dream date ken" doll and tosses into a fire) i don't frolic much lately. batteries are expensive.
I can't wait for Beltane. Hopefully my bun will be out of the oven or still inside...either way on that day, so that I may celebrate a maypole ritual with my hubby. ;0)
