I've seen them quite a bit, though not so much in recent years. Seeing Billy on an electric in Amsterdam was a bit of a shock. They're still a great group, but I'd like to see them get back to more of their roots as opposed to the house/grass they tend to play lately.

that's is a better description for it.

what do the locals out in Colorado think of the transformation of the band over the years?

depends... the scenesters are happy when they come home.
Some will go no matter because we're family (my reason)
I'm disappointed, because it isn't the band I loved. Now they have the right and need to grow, but I'm waiting for them to decide what they want to be when they grow up. Zilla and Honkytonk Homeslice help capture that old days feeling.
I went to lunch with Kang's roomie about a year ago. He was telling a story about coming in and Michael was planted in front of the stereo being intense...per usual.
My friend asked wh that was on the stereo (as it sounded like Pink Floyd to him) and Kang looks up and says coldly, "us."
That was the Untying the Not.

even though they're going more psy-trance now, i still love them. of course back in the day was great. mostly i listen their older shows. the wedding is a classic of course, and mountain sun too. i don't imagine them 'going back to their roots' anytime soon, and i really don't care. as long as they keep making music, i'll be happy.
