Hey, I've had my dreads for about three weeks now and was really happy with them at first. Hmm, well, I've washed them and no they're kinda flat and at the top a lot of hair has came loose (okay, not a whole lot) And under the bottom there are some spots that just won't stay in no matter how much I comb them and such. And it itches like crazy, but that's not a problem. I'm just concerned that they aren't locking up that well. If I just leave them alone will time fix them? And how about all the stray hairs that won't stay put -- I've tried rubberbands and everything? I'm a little frustrated with them, but I'm hoping they will fix themselves. What do you guys think? OH yea, I'm still working on posting pictures; I still haven't got internet yet, but the pictures are ready to go. Anyone else get the dreadie blues at first?

i think everyone kinda gets the dready blues at first..they will look craptacular for a while. but it also depends on how you look at it, it's cool to just think of them as being at their most unique (i've only had mine three 1/2 months, so it's not like i'm all experienced or anything ,but they have gotten more..sturdy i guess you could say ^^;; )there also seems to be quite a few posts of people worrying about the same thing, and other people said about the same thing i'm sayin..so im just regurtitating it :p

you really cant worry about them locking up or doing anything after three weeks. think in terms of years and that´s a step closer. stop doing anything to them and sit back to enjoy the process (seriously). :)

thanks imagining and MelvnDoo........i'm going throught the same sort of thing as vanilla. they are starting to look better than they were, thanks to a wool touque that i wear to bed. but i'm definitly loving my dreads.....no more brushing my hair. yeah! as far as i can see they are just going to get better with the dirty "t" word (time. lol) and i am willing to wait and enjoy them as they are.

mine almost totally undreaded themselfs by 2 months and then began recreating themselfs. just chill out and look super fluffy for half a year thats my advice... love the fluff :) and my under hair has only JUST dreaded.. nd its dreaded into 2 massive congo's :D YAAAY :p
oh 1 more point, take out the bands. they wont hold loose hairs in and they will hinder the movement and locking of the hair. :)

Thanks everyone, I feel so much better now! I guess I'll just let them do there own thing. I play with them and twist them a lot, that won't hurt them will it? Someone told me they looked good today, so that always cheers me up a bit. I love them, I'm just kind of worried that I "did something wrong" if that is possible. I suppose I'll just let them be. :p

    Thanks!

No its not really possible to do any thing wrong..
at first some peoples heads look like a rats nest then 1 year down the dread they look wonderful then 3 years down the road there fricken BEAUTIFUL!

its different but many many people go through hair withdrawal.. cause it doesn’t look "nice" at first... but its the lovely show.. just sit back and enjoy the show...
    They will be beautiful

Don't twist! Do palm rolling but do not twist. I twisted my dreads and they were beautiful the first month then the twisting took its toll and they just came out. They are starting to reform now though (6 months old).

I am actually going through the same thing (I was just about to make a thread actually). My dreads were so nicely locked up at the beginning and very beautiful (in my opinion). Then after about a month they just fell apart. Ever since they haven't been very knotted and have been very fluffy. It's getting so frustrating. I was also wondering if anyone had any assuring words or advice on locking them up. So far all I've heard is "time, just wait and be patient".

Nothing more to say that hasnt been said. Just dont try to rush them, and remember that this is about patience and not worrying about how they look. I think everyone goes through what you are right now!

    Happy Dreading
