I have a question that maybe a vegan out there can answer...I was just wondering, are there any milk producers that don't treat their cows badly?
doesnt that all depend upon what your idea of badly is,,,, i managed a large dairy farm for years and years,,, were they treated badly???? some say yay n some say nay.... cant say that i thought they were abused or neglected in anyway,,, used , mmmm maybe but then again people in general use abuse and neglect ppl and animals worse than anything else could ever possibly do... but as far as nasty dirty, underfed, no life creatures ,,, not in my opinion,,, they all had clean feed n water, had room to wander about, had regular health checkups and had preventive health care,,, so is that bad???
have you tried vanilla soy milk? I never liked milk to begin with but once I tried vanilla soy milk I was hooked. And it's pus free
wow with a name like namaste, one would hope that one would have a different sort of attitude than the one ya just stated that with,,,, not to sound old or nothing but my dear young man,, i have children that are almost your age ,,,, so therefore i answer you as i would my own,,,, and no matter how rotten shit has been in life,,,, that has always been with pure honesty,,,,, and to follow that further,,, why would i work somewhere that i did not condone procedure for 12 years of my life,,,, would have been a major waste of my time and energies ... luv n lite dilli
nevamind then dude,,, but then why are you using the name namaste then??? obviously went way above yer head,,,, my bad n to think that i thought quite possibly i could have a lil hope for the youth of the world tonite for a change,,,, shame shame on me
wow, you are just a mean, mean person.... and I thought I could always depend on the kindness of strangers.... I chose "namaste" as my name because I'm a panthiest buddhist
Crazy, I'm a Gaian-panentheist currently looking into Buddhist philosophy. =P Nice to meet'cha. To the original poster: There are some farms which don't treat their cows badly, almost all the time they are organic (that is NOT to say that all or even most organic farms are humane about it though). If you want to find one that treats cows humanely, you should actually look for organic farms in your area and physically go to the farm, and decide for yourself if it's humane or not, since everyone has a different opinion on what is humane, and also since there really isn't a better way. =P But do give Soymilk a chance; it's like milk ... but with flavour. =) They also make ricemilk and stuff.
dilli & namaste. I think you are both jumping to conclusions. I think Namaste meant that your repsonse, Dilli, is what he hoped: some dairies, like the one you worked on, have ethical stabdards. Namaste, I think (emphasis on think in both) dilli thought you were questioning her truthfulness. miscommunication is a b&*%&*%ch esp. on the net where it is words without facial expressions. so y'all should shake hands, giggle and make up! as for good milk, I love cooking with plain rice or almond milk.
I drink vanilla soy milk, that stuff is really good. I drink regular milk occasionally too, not to rub it in but just to show you how tasty the soy milk is in comparision
As far as I understand in order t keep a cow lactating you have to keep it having babies..and then they take the babies off the mother and feed them themselves so that the milk can be used for production. I have actually seen that when I was a kid...all the babies on one side of the fence and all the mothers on the other.. I think there is also a fair bit of technology as in hormones and stuff like that that is also used nowadays.... right...now I have almost cnvinced myself to become vegan I think I should say that if you want to avoid animal exploitation then avoiding milk and cheese is really one of the ways to do so.
Yeah that's what I thought. Totally agree with Hikaru Zero too. Never been a fan of milk, even before going veg. Seriously why do grown humans consume the food meant for an infant creature of another species; a freaking great herbivore with four stomaches no less. There's really no need for it either, soya milk takes some getting used to but it's good stuff.
vanilla soymilk vanilla soymilk vanilla soymilk... definatley definatley try some vanilla soymilk... if not that, try to buy organic milk then, its better than regular for you and cows, vanilla soymilk beats them both handsdown though i think...
they were still forced pregnant each year though weren't they and had their babies taken from them - a few days after birth and what happened to those baby calfs, that were brought into this world , just so humans could drink the mother cows breast milk. calves went to slaughter at tender age of a few days? did you put them in the crate out the front of the farm, for the slaughter truck to pick up. Did they sit in that crate and cry cause they were missing their mother and were scared, like ALL animals do when theya re fretting and upset. You describe a nice farm life but you don't say the whole truth do you. WHy not mention how they are constantly made pregnant and have their babies taken away!
There are, in reality two problems with milking cows: The required process of doing it, and how immoral it is (coerced pregnancy, separation of mother and child, slaughter of the child), and the other problem, which may or may not be a problem on certain farms: That of good living conditions (clean food & water, clean pens, space to move about and be happy, no steroids, etc.). I don't think I'll ever drink milk from a cow again unless I need to survive, because of the first problem, which is an immorality in the process of obtaining that milk.
Maybe I've tried the wrong kind, but vanilla soymilk is horrible in my opinion except with cereal, I can't drink it alone.
