I have been trying to learn how to make patchwork clothes and was also told about the book "threads for heads" and have had no luck. I've been trying to get in touch with her for 2-3 months. Can anyone help me out with any suggestions or anything? or anyone else who has it or whatever. Thank you very much.
I've been waiting forever for that girl to post her address or email or something. I ordered a book from her in february and sent her a money order and she cashed it, but i never received my book. Unfortunately I didn't copy her address down because I figured she'd always have some way of contacting her on her site. But of course she took that information off as soon as I needed it. Sooo... all thats kinda upset me a lil. Kinda shady I think. Well anyways if you do ever get in touch with her let me know how ya did it
thats really bad...sounds like a nasty scam to me! i duno bout sharin patchwork skills as i kinda make it up as i go along but i have sum pics of a patchwork dress ive made if you want to see it?
~*hey ~ that sucks about sketchy people ~ patchwork is fun fun fun! there seems to be no rules and making it up as we go along is so friggin zen i *love* it ~ here's a simple starter for a random patchwork concoction if you'd like a suggestion :: 1. cut a whole buncha squares/rectangles all the same size (bigger ones ~ 5-8" are easiest) outta a whole bunch of pretty patterns you like ~ 2. start sewing them together into several long strips like you are going to make scarves out of the patches ~ 3. iron your long scarfy patchy things along the seams so that they lay nice and flat! ~ 4. sew the patchy strips together to make a sheet of patches, and iron theses seams when completed ~ 5. lay out your new patchwork material sheet and cut your pattern out of it as if it were a swag of material! ~ i like to make my wrap skirts this way* hope that that was comprehensive sistah! once you get the hang of patchwork its quite fun and easy! good luck*~
it helps to have the right tools to0--a cutting mat, one of those circular cutters, a quilting ruler make things easier. if you want to get fancy, you could check a beginning quilting book out of the library too. you can do speed quilting techniques instead of cutting out each individual square. http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore.html there's a zillion quilt blocks here. and there's a few borders too--they're nice for putting patchy strips into jeans and stuff like that. when you're pressing your seams try to press towards the darker colour--it looks nicer. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hippiesewing/ join this group--there's a bunch of instructions on how to make things in the links section and in the files. what exactly are you wanting to make?
i am looking to make all of it. pants, skirts, dresses, skirts, and bags. that chick is pretty shady and i am sorry that happened to you. i am looking to do this real bad though and appreciate all of the suggestions so please keep them coming. thanks. if you think that the pictures will help, by all means yes. i already have some patchwork clothes that i bought over the past few years. i would just like to make a complete change. also about cutting out sections on jeans and stuff like that.
http://www.angelfire.com/stars2/SunshinesCreations/clothingdemo.html http://www.amitymama.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=98 follow those two links, that should give you somethign to do. i dont think you have to sign up at amity's to see all of the sewalongs over there--amazing pics, detailed instructions--a lot of kids stuff, but you can make things adult sized too.
I got one of those books about a year or so ago. I got it straight away after paying for it, but it does say she is moving so who knows what might be going on... It was a good starting point, but I only used it for like a week or two before just kind of going crazy with everything. Yeah I messed a lot up but I taught myself a lot in the process. It's the best way to learn!
I bought the book a few months ago. It took a few weeks to receive it. But I did get it finally. The email address listed in the back of the book is: patchymama@hotmail.com I'll try to find her website too and post it. I think the book is okay for a beginner. But as a nonchristian I did not like the sermon on the back page. Kathi
The web site is: http://www.geocities.com/poohdoh/book.html It still says she is currently moving and will be accepting orders again in April. Don't know what's up with that. Kathi
Yeah it was sort of preachy. I have a knack for ignoring that sort of thing though - been doing it all my life. Other than that, it is a really good book for beginners. But once you make something one time and learn how, you don't really need it anymore.
I tried emailing her for 2 months and goinging to her website daily. so that really isn't working at all.
