So yea I'm thinking about getting a scorpion...anyone have one or know anyone that has one? I think it's an Emperor Scorpion and they get about 6-7 inches long. Just thought it'd be a good pet...

the Emperor scorpion is one of the largest scorpions. they grow to aboue 4-8 inches depending on sex. males are generally smaller then females.

some of the colors they come in are
dark blue or black, and occasionally dark brown or even greenish.

the pinchers have a redish coloring and are surrounded by small hairs. which are used to sense object in front of them and possible food items.

another good way of picking out a sex is by the tail, The pectines are noticeably longer in the males than the females and are a good way of distinguishing the sexes.

Emperor scorpions are found in the hot tropical forests and savannas of Africa. Like all scorpions, they like to burrow beneath the soil and can be found under rocks and other debris
Emperor scorpions feed on almost anything in the wild, including insects, arachnids, mice and lizards. In captivity they are fed crickets, mealworms, woodlice, butterworms, and pinkie mice. The young are fed crushed up pinhead crickets

The emperor scorpion's main enemy is man. Overcollection by pet owners has greatly reduced their numbers in Togo and Ghana. They are on the CITES II species list as threatened.

The mothers are occasionally cannibalistic and have been known to eat a few of their young.

There are 12 000 species of scorpions found worldwide.

From my understanding the Emporer scorpions are about as poisonous as a bee.

I've handled scorpions before. Emperor Scorpion stings are, indeed, like bee venom, but remember, some people may have allergies to the venom. The number one rule when judging how dangerous a scorpion is, is to look at the size of its pincers. The smaller the pincers, the more venomous the scorpion is, as the pincers don't provide alot of protection, it need to carry a more potent venom. BUt that isn't the case with emperor scorpions.

They SHOULD be kept in a nocturnal house if you wish to handle it alot, as they are nocturnal, and handling them during the day could cause irritable agression. Oh, they don't see infra-red light, either, with is always handy if you need to shine a light on them without frightening them.

They aren't the greatest pets in the world, and their numbers are getting on the low side. You can't really do alot with them, and they need the correct heating and lighting systems.
