Have any of you ever had your hands dipped in hot wax? (I heard it was really good for your skin.) If you have, did it hurt alot? How much would something like this cost and does it cause any skin damages?

well I used to dip my fingers in candle wax and it really doesn't hurt and after you peel it off it really does make your skin feel softer

I'd like to try it. Can you buy the melted wax from somewhere or do you have to do it yourself lol?

i don't think wax will stay melted so you'd have to heat it up

Yeah, but I heard there was somewhere I could go to get it done. I'm a coward and if I hurt myself I want a band-aid fast lol. Besides, if the salon does it then it will be doneby a professional and if I do it myself then I'll mess up a perfectly good sauce pan.

    my suggestions:

don't waste money on something so simple and inexpensive

you can get them in a tin can if I'm not mistaken or glass and you don't have to worry about damaging a pot or you could put it in a plastic microwavable thing

but honestly it's not hard at all, it's impossible to screw up and salons that offer that are just jipping their customers

unless they do like a full body thing or something, then I could understand them charging

hm... well, when i was little i made a purple wax hand on the boardwalk, does that count? i remember thinking that it made my hand really soft afterwards. i have no idea how much it was, but there are multi booths, so if i think about it, i can check. i remember that i had to hold my hand in ice water for about 30 seconds, before putting my hand in the hot wax.. i was afraid that it would hurt so i insisted on keeping my hand in for an extra few seconds... so no, it didn't hurt, and i can be a wimp.

i've also liked playing with candles, and sticking my fingers in the wax. that was never real painful, either.

if you decide to do it yourself, be real careful and test out the wax (maybe get a 'meat thermometer' and stick it in the wax to check the temp) to make sure it's safe and won't burn. i'd probably go with an un-dyed, un-scecnted wax, i guess thats obvious... unless you could add a few drops of a scented, soothing oil to the wax? i wonder if that would be a good idea. i'd look into different kinds of wax...

sex shops sell candles specifically for dripping on skin (they burn at a lower temperature) so maybe that would be a better bet? find a massive amount of that kind of wax?

Causing yourself pain because you heard it on TV is probably a mistake.
Doing anything you heard on TV is risky. Listen to your body. Pain is bad.

oh and about melting the wax yourself...
put the wax in a sealed baggie or something, and put it in boiling water... but not so that its touching the bottom of the pan. like when you melt chocolate, you put one small pan in a larger one; the larger pan is full of boiling water, and the top pan has the chocolate or wax in it. if you don't want to get a pan waxy, then float a mug in it, or get a sturdy baggie. this prevents the wax from burning, rather than melting. stir it as it melts, so it melts evenly and the temp is the same throughout.

there are like "therapeutic wax machines" but they are just like crockpots that you put wax in.

my friend has one. (waste of $$$ if you ask me)

anyway, melt your own wax. (also put it on your eyelids. i now it sounds weird but it is GOD!!!! just be careful)

    Peace love and laughter

I saw it too, it wasn't just any regular wax. It was some vitamin rich medicated shit and then you put some kind of glove on.

I think I'm just going to stick with my lotion for dry skin, thanks. Hot wax does not sound like fun... I'm too much of a wuss to try waxing my legs, let alone dipping my hands into it or pouring on myself. ugh

it's called paraffin wax, you can buy the machine like things at wal-mart or target. they usually go on sale after christmas with all the other pedicure/manicure things.

    here's one at target...
    http://www.target.com/gp/detail.htm...7?_encoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0002U476G

a lot of salons offer a paraffin wax treatment with manicure or pedicure packages...which will probably run about 40 or 50 dollars I imagine. I had it done before, its good stuff...it lasts longer than lotion but the effects weren't terribly different. it is also supposed to be good for arthritis and joint pain...

    hope that helps!
