how many other people feel like crying when they think of how it's being destroyed, or feel horrible? how many people have donated to it?

I belave that we should just stop with the technology! Live how god intended us to live! That way none of this would have happend. We could all live in the world without overpopulating and killing inocent animals that do nothing to us. Not to mention the beautifull sceanary we could have, that would help our friend, planet earth, to breath.

    NOTE: CANT WRITE GOOD LITERATURE

i visit http://www.therainforestsite.com everyday and *most* of the links on those sites too....

and i bet you didnt know this but one of the biggest contributors to rain forest destruction is actually the meat industry, meaning the biggest reason they cut it down is to just make room for more grazing fields etc etc.... i read somewhere the average vegetarian saves an acre(i think?) of trees a year, im sure thats not necesarily true but its doing something positive for a change i think.

i agree with all of you, im a vegetarian because i read and article on how becoming one can save part of our environment and thats the most important thing to me. I only just became a vegetarian but i say better now than never. people waste so much just producing 1 pound of hamburer meat its crazy. I jsut hope it all stops one day before its too late.

The rainforest isn't being destroyed by multinational logging corporations.

It's being destroyed by poor farmers in South America who are despreatly trying to grow enough food to feed their families.

This is partly to blame because of innefecient 'slash and burn' agriculture methods, and partly to blame on US and Europe subsidies which artificially deflate crop prices, making their sale less prosperous for poor nations.

Both problems need to be addressed.

Yeah, the government is partly to blame here...

If we lifted farm subisides here and brought down overproduction, we would not only save a lot of money, but we would save some rain forest too.

We also need to help them get more modern forestation and agriculture policies which are much more eco friendly.

Thats not the only problem you can blame on farm subsidies either.

Agriculture subsidies led to slavery for over 100 years in the US and if your a pot head, cotton subsidies are the reason marijuana is illegal.

I know pot being illegal doesn't compare to slavery, but it still sucks.

damn Lodui, you are too knowledgeable for your age.

I feel that its a bad problem, I've never cried over it, but it seems like such an incredible place...I don't want to see it gone from the earth and replaced by a monoculture.

Sometimes I think people don't notice, but what was once a forest is often replaced with one type of tree, planted over and over with no undergrowth

Additionally, in some cases 2 acres of old growth forest can be legally replaced by 1 acre of new plantation forest.

Why? Because more biomass is produced in a shorter amount of time from young trees than old trees. So the same yearly biomass production of 2 acres of old growth forest can be achieved in 1 acre of developing forest.

Just another example of logging corporations getting the government to use "science" for its advantage. Obviously there is NO comparison in terms of biodiversity and ecological importance between the old growth forest and plantations. So where we HAD 2 acres of incredibly diverse, functional old growth forests we now have 1 acre of single species plantation.

I wanna end up volunteering in the rainforest for a year or so. I hate the fact that we have destroyed this planet.

I would love to spend a few years living with native tribes in the rainforests, that would be an awesome experience.

When i get out of high school i am planning on becoming something that deals with conservation. Whether i go work over in the rainforests or become a park ranger. either way i could still be helping to save and protect the wild life and forest that we still have left. more people need to stop saying they are going to do something and really do it.

yeah they also say that by destroying the rainforest they are also destroying not only exotic wildlife, but also plants and herbs which could contribute for the curing of illness and disease in this generation, or generations to come

    It must stop

I see the Amazon as the lungs of the Earth and right now if it doesn't stop we're in for a serious bout of mass lung cancer.

If anyone knows of any groups protecting this treasure let me know.

It's really scary to think about what our environment is becoming.

I really don't see why all these people that are destroying it dont just stop and listen to people like us and maybe they'd stop killing our beautiful earth.
