We should always have freedom of speech. But in places such as high schools, I believe you have to have a code or set of rules regaurding said rights. If you don't have this, then ANYTHING is up for grabs, right? There are always limits and there will always be people to try to test thoes limits, but the latter part cannot destory the first. Does that make since?
like anything if censorship were to be taken away the privledge would be horribly abused by some people. our society hasn't evovled enough yet to take complete freedom of speech seriously and probably never will in our lifetime. censorship is good to an extent, but for the most part it is taken way too seriously and people go way way way too far with it.
well.. censorship's bad. but I think, like Vulva Queen said, that some people will abuse their 'freedom of speech'. people need to be controlled. yeah..

I think that censoring radio and tv is uneccesary, if a program is too vulgar the advertisers will pull their ads from the program. Also, why is graphic violence and gore not considered obscene, but the naked human body is? I mean, they can show pretty much any violent act on tv, but one nipple means your network get fined. Alex
er why do I scare you Gr8fulyDeadicated?! on the other hand Duck does make a good point. people wouldn't be able to handle it because they're not exposed to it in the first place, it's sort of a catch 22 situation. in general I don't agree with it but it's the concequences that worry me.. but I suppose great things come with great risk! it would be so much easier if everyone just accepted that there are stupid people who would abuse a privledge but just to tune these people out. eventually I'm sure people would evolve to that, so maybe taking it away would force some sort of evolution out of our society, or create some mayham for a while, either or.
Any sort of control over speach has lead to greater control, if it means some idiot yelling Fire during a movie every once in awhile, I'm perfectly okay to look around, see if there is one and reasonably walk out if I see one, I'm not willing to have my rights infringed upon because 98% of people are stupid
My former history teacher used to say "Freedom can only work as long as you don't take away another person's freedom." (That's not her sentence I know (and I translated it badly), but she's the one I'll always associate it with.) So I guess free speech is great, but you have to watch out for people using it to spread opinions violating human rights.
