Actually, calcium lactate is not usually from milk. It's one of the rare exceptions. Our school serves V8 entrees every day, and V8 is kind enough to mark "vegan" on its meals that are vegan. When I looked at the ingredients of their Pot-Pie (which was labelled "vegan"), I saw calcium lactate, and the cafeteria management went out and researched it and found out that calcium lactate doesn't usually come from cows. =)

As for bread ... most "whole white breads" aren't vegan, but a fair amount of the other kinds are. Rye bread, manna bread, all of those other (better-tasting) breads are vegan. Also, Wegmans' whole white bread is also vegan, I *THINK*, check the label to verify that.

    Good luck dude!

what is it im lookin for though that arent vegan ingredients though? i know the obvious ones, but what are the not so obvious ones that might give me some problems that i need to watch out for?

good to know calcium lactate isnt milk derived though, i just bought some egg replacer the other day without thinking to check the ingredients and noticed that in it too :)

go to a local bookstore and ask them to order Animal Ingredients A to Z it's around 10$ and so worth it there's even a chapter on vegan beers, liquors, and wine also google i can't believe it's vegan it says that wonder bread is vegan and tells you all kinds of things that you wouldn't think are vegan.....but they are good luck

bread is very simple and in some countries it is made with only three ingredients(water flour, salt,) it's a very simple food but in this country we have the convenience to go to a health food store and buy some "ezekiel" or any other organic breads they have.
    love and light

yeast is a plant/ fungus sort of thing...yeah, I CLEPped bio in uni and cannot remember the actual clasification
. lower on the food chain.

for vegan, check sprouted breads (usu kept in a cooler) avoid honey, obviously and do get Ato Z. Great book. I had one for a while (old neighbor travelled and left books with me)
