I wasn't a hippie yet in 1966, but I did hear Cesar Chavez speak at Penn State in an open SDS meeting in 1968 about the farm workers' union and the boycott of "scab" grapes and helped picket stores that carried them. The only thing I remember from his speech was the conditions that non-union migrant workers had to endure for very low pay.
