I like the doors, but I have wondered myself many times whether bands such as the doors were regarded with the same obnoxious fandom (and the screaming fangirls that accompany it) as certain present day bands. ::coughkillerscough ::
Well it's one thing to say that there are better bands than the Doors...which is true. But it is another thing to complety bash them by saying they don't compare at all to these other bands. Now I'm a fan of the Doors and these other bands mentioned, I don't not listen to one group just because someone made better music. The fact is that the Doors did make great music, but they also pushed better bands out of the limelight. They do ;however, deserve some respect for doing what they did.
Anyone who puts down The Doors should be bitch-slapped and sodomized. They were one of the best bands of all time, and if you don't think so you're just plain wrong.
I personally like the doors, dont know them all that well, but i like them. As far as musical talent goes none of them were amazing, except maybe their keyboardist (from wat i heard he is pretty sick at the keys). But with that being said it was Jim's talent of songwriting and singing that elevated them to be considered one of the greaetest bands. I mean, anyone else singins the end would just sound corny. Jim had that special something (maybe too much of that something) that makes greatness. But it really is just all opinion so i think these threads about bands sucking have got to end, cuz they are stupid and never result in anything. So yea maybe they wernt the most talented musicians but they still rocked pretty fucking hard. P.S. someone said that the doors dont compare to the other bands of the 60s in their songwriting which I think is crazy, that probably is the one place where they (or Jim) surpasses most of the bands from the 60s.
i like the doors, and i think jim morrison was hot... but it doesnt matter how elaborate music is, as long as it sounds good, right? i mean, i knotice that their stuff sounds kinda simple, but it doesnt change the fact that they rocked really hard. and you cant deny that ray is one bad ass motherfucker on the keyboard. i think ray's keyboarding is equivalent to ian anderson's flute-ing. err i dunno, im having a bit of trouble linking messages.... remember when we were in africa?
I love the poetic works of jim morrison, and I think that Ray Manzarek was a genious, not to mention an extremely talented keyboardist. Sure, jim attracted a lot of the teeny bopper, "listenin to the music so people think im cool" kind of crowd, but thats not really their fault is it? <------ Proud of signature!
I disagree, I think they were very talented. And I'm not going to waste my time argueing this point, because I will never change your opinion and you will never change mine. ;p
I love The Doors as a whole and not just Jim. In fact, if you know all four of the members and know what they look like, if you look at my signature, you can prolly guess which Doors member is my fave.... I love The Doors and The Beatles very very very much....
Maybe The Doors cant compare to other bands of the 60's but theyre right up in the top. If you think the doors are on par with N'sync im sorry but your not a very bright person.
That's really sad that you think they were one of the best, and you're 51. You shouldn't be so closed-minded and check out some other bands..
I believe I said earlier that it's their keyboards and guitar playing that make them semi good... Jim's writing, for the most part, was downright horrible compared to many other bands of the era.
I've checked out tons of bands. Let me explain the difference between you and me. newo = great taste in music soulrebel51 = no taste in music Any questions?
liek omg, yer soooo kewl! The Doors were an average band... how can you call them to be the greatest, let alone better than The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, The Mothers of Invention, The Move, The 13th Floor Elevators, The Band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Small Faces, Love, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, Roxy Music, Amon Düül II, The Grateful Dead? To say that they are the greatest band of all-time is plain absurd.
I never knew there was anything wrong with the doors. Just because lots of people listen to them doesnt mean nothing. They are awesome
I didn't say they were the greatest, I said they were one of the greatest. And as a matter of fact I have told people they're up there with The Rolling Stones.
