Why should the size of the diamond matter? Is not the meaning behind it what is truly important?

absolutely not. I don't need a diamond, much less a big one!! whatever I am presented with when I am asked to marry will be just fine. It's what it means, not what it looks like.

Plus, I can think of a bunch of things I would rather spend the extra cash on!!

er, well. it can. Above a bare minimum. So long as it's at least two millimetres or bigger in diameter, it's good. But those teensy little diamonds don't seem worth purchasing - I'd rather have a really nice cubic zirconia than a teensy little diamond on an engagement ring.

Not that it's a huge deal, since I don't plan on ever getting married, lol.

No way....it's the thought that counts and the gesture.

If I ever get engaged, I don't want a diamond...I'd rather have something like a really cool turquoise setting or Amber or something...

It matters to the jewelry store who's selling it...;) That's why they advertise "two months salary".

Obviously, you don't want a chip for an engagement ring, but mine isn't huge and was more like "two week's pay" instead of "two month's salary". :D It was also on sale...they were closing business.

Anything too big and gaudy looks like costume jewelry from a gumball machine to me.

I was engaged for a short time and we had matching sterling silver wrap rings....that is all I wanted. I don't like diamonds and to be honest I would probably be disapointed if a guy ever asked me to marry him with a diamond ring.

Nope, it doesn't matter. I hate big gawdy rings, they look odd to me.

Nope.. I would rather have a ring that he knew I would like than a big diamond... He should know my style and pick accordingly... Im happy with a plain white gold ring....

Diamonds are loaded with the blood of innocents, any man who wanted to marry me would know better than to give me a diamond ring. That said, if I ever get engaged, a silver band with a stone such as an opal or sapphire would be perfect. And I would get him one as well, I've never understood while only women wear engagement rings.

I hear a sista. I hate hearing girls talk about the size of their diamonds they either have or want. Who cares what size it is. It's all about the thought behind it!

At least this isn't in woman's issues.

I like my diamonds bigger, becuase that means more children died in the diamond mine and it also means the more money wasted by whoever bought it...

You know if Zales let out all of the diamonds they owned (they own 98% of the worlds diamond supply) diamonds wouldnt be worth a hundreth of their current cost.... they only let out a small percentage of their supply at a time to get the prices high...

If your girl cares about jewelry, get her a fake diamond... she'll fuck you for weeks.

I got my first engagement ring when I was 16. It was so tiny, I could barely see the diamond, but I didn't care. Until, I started showing people my diamond and they would smile and say "oh, thats nice" then show me their 1 Karet ring. My second engagement ring was 3 quarters of a Karet, only because I went with him to the jewelry store to pick it out.

My ex fiance was not making much money at the time so he took me to a pawn shop to get my engagement ring. I found a beautiful set called, "old world style." The engagement ring was a 14 karat white gold setting with a 1 karat stone. The wedding ring was adorned with four ½ karat stones. A year after he moved in, I happened upon a nicely priced ring. While admiring it, I happened to look down at the ring already on my finger. The diamond seemed to sparkle brighter than it had before and knowing that we had chosen it together, I decided that I just could not part with it. To answer your question, no, the size of the diamond does not matter. I am not a big fan of platinum or gaudy jewels to begin with.

If ever ask a girl to marry may, she's prob'ly getting no ring. And if she is getting a ring, it definatly will not be diamond. The whole idea of a diamond rings for engagement was invented by the diamond monopolies. Diamonds are really nearly worthless, but by controlling the supply they can make it seem to be a rare thing. If it wasn't for this damn capitalism, diamonds would be sold at any little store for $5 a piece.

It's just a rock...buy something useful with your money lol....for the price of some rings, I could buy a car for gawd sakes. Just the concept of paying 5000+ dollars for a rock that sits on your hand and does nothing really confuzzles me.

The size of the diamond doesn't really matter to me- but if the man I'm marrying can afford something decent, then I would be slightly put off if he got me a piece of junk.

I'm really NOT materialistic, but if I'm going to wear something for (hopefully) the rest of my life, it has to be something I absolutely love. White gold, diamond set off by smaller sapphires or pink stones ideally, but I'm flexible. I don't want that's too expensive either. But cheap jewlery isn't even worth it, in my opinion.

I guess I'm just really traditional about marriage...
