i was confused on how to make different patchwork cloths so i searched for awhile on the internet for a book that shows how i can make different patchwork..the website is: http://www.geocities.com/poohdoh/book.html i ordered it and i cant wait for it to come in Peace and love
There is another new hippie patchwork sewing book out: http://www.angelfire.com/biz6/earthexpressions/book.html
Yeah if anyone has it, tell alittle about it and your thoughts and opinions on it, coz if it's worth it, which is seems to be, I'm deffinitely buying it! And thank you plainjane for posting, I never knew about this book. Now I'm all excited!
I just got that. It is way more informative than Lauren's, I think. It also has patterns in the back. I think it is worth it. It goes in depth about seams, easy ways to make the actual patchwork, how to price things for sale, etc. It has more info. than "threads for heads" and is easier to understand.
Yeah... I just ordered a copy.... Cant wait to get it ... I like Lauren's book.. Its informative and useful... But it could have been better... Its about Time someone else made one... We should make a hipforums book crafty mamas book
I don't own the new book but I have heard nothing but good things about it. I own Threads for Heads and I guess when I bought it I was already way beyond it. It wasn't helpful to me at all. I do think the pictures are cute though It sounds like this new book is really detailed so you will get more bang for your buck. And there are patterns in there!
I got the Patchwork Expressions Book. I just got it last week. It was actually just released last week. I had preordered it because the author is on a yahoo group that I'm on. It has a lot more info than Threads For Heads. And it has actual patterns in the back. The patterns are all way too small for me, but than everything is. It is packed with a lot of info. I think it would be especially good for a beginning sewer. I have both books and find tham to be good reference sources. Kathi
great, i did think the book sounded a little more thorough, but i wasn't too sure. i definitely want to get it when i get some cash. I feel like i've kinda hit a dead end with threads for heads, maybe this one will help boost my creativity flow By the way, that would be sweet if we made a book ....good plan stan, when i actually get good at sewing, call me haha
now i really i can't wait til mine comes. i'm all excited, both to start sewing and 'cuz i never get anything but bills in the mail
yeah, i have owned threads for heads for a couple of years and have not had much use for it. it gives basic concepts - not much beyond that.
If you find these useful, get a copy of Elizabethan Costuming from Living History Press. It has great sections on pattern drafting and lots of "nontraditional" ideas for men's & women's clothing. I use the infinite gore skirt how to a lot.
For you guys/gals that ordered the Patchwork Expressions Book how long did it take for you to receive the book? Are the patterns really pattern pieces (as opposed to drawings that you have to draft a pattern piece from)? How long did it take to receive a conformation of order e-mail/did you receive one for the Patchwork Expression Book? Would you consider the Patchwork Expression Book helpful for someone who knows how to sew and piece, but hasn't made patchwork clothes or would you recommend the Threads for Heads book or both? Sorry for all the questions and thank you for any responses.
Yes Patchwork expressions is a great book... It does have patterns.. you either need to remove them from the book or photocopy them... The need to be taped together... There are several (8 or more i think) pages that make up each pattern... Personally I would recomend both though.. I know lots of people didnt like threads for heads... but there is some useful information in there too.... I think any information you can get your hands on is good... I cant hurt...
They are actual patterns, that you cut out and piece together yourself- very easy and basic. The entire transaction was very quick and easy. I ordered it at around midnight, and she emailed me the next morning. Elise was awesome. It took about 2.5-3 wks for me to receive it, but i live in Canada, so there was probably a delay. I would definitely recomend this book over Threads for Heads hands down. There way more detail, and helpful tips and hints. She really sets you on the right track and doesn't leave you asking questions, like Threads For Heads. I love it!!
I can not sew to save my life, but I've been dying to learn. I just can't seem to find a book that doesn't bore me to tears. Would this be a good book to start with or would it be too advanced for me? TIA!
