I had an interesting thing happen today while I was at school *college*. I went to my math class and I heard about this girl I know being late to class. I didnt think much of it until some guy came in and said that she was in the parking lot and couldnt or wouldnt come to class because she was missing one of her flip flops cuz she lost one of them at home.

What was lame about it was she missed 20 minutes of lecture going over the material for the test tommorow until someone went out there and let her borrow their flip flops just so she could come to class. I think it was stupid because had she just gone barefoot and forgot about the flip flops she wouldve been in class and couldve gone over the material with the rest of us. Theres not even any rules saying she has to wear shoes to class and alot of girls just kick em off once they get in class anyways so i dont see what the big deal was. I thought it was kinda dumb.

This was in Orange County (L.A.)? If it was, I'm somehow not surprised given the experiences I've had with L.A. people and their strange fear of going barefoot since I moved here.

Last weekend during my road trip I was crossing a major street in Orange County- in some suburban area where a lot of recently immigrated asian people are trying to make more money, buy real estate and expensive cars, and live some kind of boring American Dream. I noticed that everyone going by in their cars gave me a shameful, perplexed stare- wondering why I was shoeless and wearing roughewn hand-made clothing and walking. Yes walking. I believe that in Los Angeles everyone is expected to wear shoes and be riding in a car. Anything else and you may as well be naked. This place is so different from the liberal environmentalist town I moved from where people on the street always greeted me with smiles, kisses, and friendly conversation. Why did I ever leave?

Damn dude, I don't know... I'd suggest getting out of that smoggy, car dominated city of stuck up morons and get back to more relaxed place. LA is one place I'd probably never move to.

I hated the fact that I couldn't take off my shoes in school. Then I moved to this really small school, which you would think would be more strict, but they were so liberal there! It was frowned upon, but not by many and no one would ever stop you!

    I really miss that school.

Maybe everyone in LA should set up a rally where you get 1,000's of people to jump up and down until LA falls into the ocean..... it needs a little help... obviously eathquakes arent doing the trick

I actually live in the city of Orange about an hour's drive from downtown LA. People here are too conservative sometimes for my tastes.

i can take off shoes and actually don't bring them with me when the weather is like that (like now, shoes stay off since almost two weeks, thouhg it's really cold on the way in the morning). there is no law against it in germany, but i got all the strange looks and comments when i started shoeless schooling. now its not a big thing anymore.
