thanks everyone. i guess you could say the boots themselves inspired me. the first time i altered a pair of boots, they were much simpler. i was learning to set eyelets, and i had a package of multi-colored eyelets and some black boots with no eyelets in the holes for the laces, so i practiced on the boots. those too were thrift store boots, and had already seen a lot of use. they're long gone now. but i saw these the last time i was in the goodwill. when i first saw them, i'd thought of an old-fashioned newsboy for some reason. i found the eyelets in a crafts store, and the rest of the design just followed.

nothing is glued or sewn on, although the eyelets are set in. the copper color is acrylic paint, which will crack as the boots age - but that's an effect i rather like with this design. the bracelet link is threaded over the grosgrain ribbon laces. there is a side view in my gallery that shows its heel, but i don't have a back view. i intend to add a little charm or something to the tag on back, hence the additional eyelet.

really i don't expect them to last very long. maybe a year at most. normally i'm a barefooter. i designed these with one specific purpose in mind. i'm taking a vacation soon to spend some time alone and get some spiritual work done (not to mention having a little fun) and so i made these boots to wear then.
