I have killians irish red, grolsch amber ale, lowenbrau, pilsner urquell (czech), franziskaner hefe-weisse.... this world market allows you to take a beer and build your own six pack...... instead of getting a full six pack of something you never had and want to try, you only have to buy one of it. its so cool, now I can try all these different beers I havent tried before. any thoughts of the ones I mentioned??
Killians Irish Red isn't very good at all. It's an American take on an Irish red lager, though there is really nothing Irish about it at all. It's not horrible, but it's very average at best. It's basically a kitty-step above all the other mass-produced swill on the market. It's cheap and drinkable, but I wouldn't buy it. I've actually never had the Grolsch Amber Ale before, so I cannot speak for that. Lowenbrau is a decent German lager, but it's a lager, and most European lagers are pretty much all the same, with the exception of some slight differences in taste. Pilsner Urquell is a decent Czech lager, but again, not a whole lot different from the other European lagers. I enjoy this as well as Lowenbrau when it comes to lager. But to me, lagers really only taste good in warmer weather. Franziskaner Hefe-weisse is an AWESOME German wheat beer. It's probably my favorite beer of this style -- a perfect example of a German hefeweizen.
thanx matt. I had a whole selection of german beers to choose from, but I thought I would try this out first (the hefewiesse), and maybe try some other kinds later on.....
After 12+ years of research, I have reached the following conclusions: Mass produced beers are shit (and no, I don't mean Massachusetts) and will henceforth be referred to as GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Harp, Murphy's, Wexford, Boddington and Guinness are specifically excluded. Because I like British ales and Irish pub ales and stouts. It's my hypothesis, don't like it then bugger off. Budweiser is a filthy word. Anything with "Ice" in the title should be incinerated and the ashes shot into space. 40s should be outlawed. Australians know how to drink beer, not make it. Foster's is goanna piss. Same goes for the Japanese. I'm not sure what they put in Sapphoro, but I suspect it's whatever radiant alpha particles were leftover in Hiroshima/Nagasaki. Stick to Cars, OK Fellas? And let's not even talk about Korean beer. I'd like to be able to eat this week... The retail price of a beer is inversely proportionate to it's ability to provide you with a hangover the following morning (i.e.: at $10US per 6 pack, drink away... you'll be fine. If you haven't tried Rogue, well, WTF are you waiting for?* *This is not a commercial endorsement for Rogue, just my opinion, even though you know I'm right.
Pressed Rat have you tried the Weihenstephaner Hefe.It is by far my favorite wheat beer. Franziskaner is probably my third or forth on the list. Generally if i am drinking Franziskaner, i am drinking their Dunkel
White Rascal is a decent wheat beer... it's spiced, and has a nice sediment when poured properly. One of my favorites comes out of Philadelphia, brewed by Yard Brewery. It's called Thomas Jefferson Tavern Ale. If you can get your hands on this beer, try it. I've had a few others by the same brewer, and were equally great beers... but, this one just smacked me in the face with goodness! Also, try out Ruination IPA... it's definitely for the hop head. Olde Hickory brewery in North Carolina brews up some of the best around these parts... Cheers!! Jon
At the bar i work at we have 76 micros and imports and 10 tap beers.. its insanes..... soon we're gonna be upto 100 micros and imports
That's not too bad... my bar has 221 bottles, and 32 draughts. We've started an "Ultimate Beer Challenge" where you drink every beer in stock. I was the first to finish at 93 days, that's following the rules of only 4 per day. Cheers!!
I have always liked killians irish red for a beer... Its better than most stuff in my tiny little pathetic town... No microbrews or anything around her with out a 45 minute drive.. So for whats around.. Its good , better than bud by far.
