marijuana and coughing?

Hey, my boyfriend smokes pot a good bit, it used to be every day but he isnt doing it that much anymore, i while back he went through a time when he was a total pothead, like smoking all day, but he realized that wasnt working after a few months and cut down. He doesnt smoke cigs, just pot, but he is always coughing. Every time i am with him he has coughing fits like 3 every 30 min sometimes. He is always coughing and it doesnt seem healthy to me. could this be cause by the pot smoking? when he coughs i want to tell him he needs to cut down, but if thats not the cause i dont want to sound misinformed or controlling, i just want him to be healthy. thanks. (and i know while smoking it causes coughing, the times i am talking about he isnt stoned or smoking)

 

pot can make you cough a little bit more, but not like you are describing. Does he have asthma or any other breathing problems? Does he have a tendency to get cheast colds or bronchitis? It sounds like the trouble is coming from something else other than smoking pot.

If not, he should try to quit for a month and see how he feels.

 

yea it could be if he smokes alot....ur till taking in stuff that inst good for ur lungs. how ever... he might have asthma or has he had a cold or anything. cuz it could be the left overs of that and the smoke is just brining it out

 

well he does have a shitty immune system, he is sick all the time, i dont think he has asthma, but he got pnemonia real bad last year, he coughed soo much it made him pass out when he had that.. maybe its a side effect of that? i dont remember him coughing the first time we dated, when we broke up is when he got hard core into pot and got really sick, then when we started up again i have noticed him always coughing. damn now im worried, i feel bad asking him to try to stop for a month just to see what happens(he doesnt seem to care about the coughing, just i do), but its a good idea, maybe i will bring it up.

 

It sounds like he is in the same boat as me. I don't technically have asthma, but I do have a weak immune system and i'm prone to cheast colds. I have had what would be considered an asthma attack a quite a few times.

Smoking pot while really sick isn't good for you. I don't think that it makes it worse, but by smoking anything, you are slowing the healing process in your lungs. I have to cut down dramatically (as an everyday smoker myself) whe I get sick. Just a few hits at a time. I SHOULD stop completely, but I have the true heart of a stoner

Let him know that when he is sick, he should cut down and he should take some sort of vitamin or watch his diet and eat healthy to prevent sickness since he has such a weak immune system.

wow thats pretty nasty. i'm glad your better. but yeah, he has been taking vitamins and trying to eat healthier recently b/c he has noticed how crappy his immune system has been, im going to tell him when he is sick he should try and stop to give his lungs a break. If your S/O told you that, would you think of it as overbearing or anything, i dunno ,i just dont want him to think i am trying to control his smoking, i just care about him. i dont think he would take it the wrong way though.

 

I'm guessing you don't smoke pot. When i'm sick my man tries to get me to stop completly, and it's not because he's trying to control me, he just cares. I know that, I just don't listen

Anyway, I don't think he can be mad if you tell him, or just suggest, that he cut down and take care of his body when he's sick. He may not listen so don't be mad at him either. If it's worth it to him to get better quick, he'll cut down or quit. If not, it's his choice and there's not much you can do but care and try to take care of him the best you can.

 

i only started coughing when i was mixing my weed with tobacco. since i stopped doing that ritually, i stopped coughing.
most stoners i know dont couhg unless theyre cigarette smokers.
