    Temple of the Wind

    Jenny was a dancer
    Of the Celtic type
    Kept her mornings practice filled
    Performances at night

    On one normal night
    Right after a show
    Jenny felt a gently wind
    Show her where to go

Up on to the hill top
    Green as Eire’s glens
    She thought she heard voices
    As she turned every bend

Then she reached the highest hill
From which all the land could be seen
And the wind tugged at her hair again
    Not urgent, but serene

“Behold the Temple of the Wind”
A voice said, mysterious and faint
    But Jenny saw no temples
    Just a village, very quaint

And the voice that seemed to read her heart
    Answered in reply
“Ah! the temple is only seen by those
Who look through the inner eye.”

    Jenny felt the wind again
    Urging her to be calm
And in the moment closed her eyes
On her heart placed her palm

    There was a great light
    A sudden gust of wind
She was floating and free for what seemed a moment,
Then Celtic dancer Jenny once again

    Many years later
    From that fateful night
    Jenny still remembered what happened
In that flash of brilliant light

“I was clothed in silver light,” she said
“My heart was in the deepest peace
At once I beheld everything that ever was
And learned that our souls never cease

“To be when we leave our bodies
Now I know there’s nothing to fear
And if I didn’t know better I’d say
‘Twas the voice of the Beloved in my ear”

    Jenny the Celtic dancer
Was never quite the same after that day
Her jigs were filled with new found joy and devotion
And her heart did ceaselessly pray

And when she could no longer dance
When old age had claimed her limbs
She told her story of Divine light
On the hill top Temple of the Wind

Great story, glad you shared. I might suggest working on the rhythm so it flows better, but otherwise I liked it a lot.

I loved the Celtic theme in your poem, the culture of Ireland has always been fascinating to me especialy the religion of the Celts-very awesome!

Thanks...I used the theme because the title came from a Celtic instrumental by the same name...the song is found on Kate Prices's Deep Heart's Core

I loved the idea but hoped against hope it might be a fabulous, folklore place. Where the invisible and barely seen creatures we know are there gather after dark. The Temple of the Wind deserves such inhabitants. Don't offer it to any other.

The Temple of the Wind is the Divine within everything and everyone...and if you so chose for it to be a creature...then it is what you see it as... :)
