i love REAL country....johnny cash, willie nelson, old bluegrass.. the new stuff doesn't do much for me though
there's a little bit of country that i like Johnny Cash of course and if you count jamgrass stuff then the Dead's country type stuff was good but i don't like any new country or newgrass/new jamgrass
johnny cash indeed, that sort of country is great! the country of today is just so incredably aweful...its all so bad, and it all sounds the same.
The Rolling Stones made the best country songs and Bob Dylan... I can't stand the stuff that's got that country twang in it.
I love Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss & Bluegrass station, Jerry Douglas, Bob Dylan and Rolling Thunder shoot I could go on but I guess the answer is yes
The dead were most certainly not a southern rock band, they were from san fransisco for chrissakes! and southern rock and country are not the same thing. The Allman Brothers has way more roots in blues and gospel than country, so does the dead for that matter. I like "outlaw country" like Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, loooove bluegrass, but I cannot stand this watered down poppy "family values" country that you here on country music stations. Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, they make me nauseaus, literally nauseaus. Country music lyrics should not be about nostalgia for the "good 'ol days" (like that god-awful tim mcgraw song about how "when you said 'i'm down with that' it meant you had the flu") and family values, it should be about drinking whiskey, shooting people, and going to jail. "I'm stuck in folsom prisonnnnn and time keep dragin byyyyyyyy/Cause I shot a man in Renoooo, just to watch him dieeee" Now that's country! RIP Johnny Cash
I'm with most of the other people, I really really like the old stuff, especialy Cash, but I hate the new stuff, the lyrics arn't great, no especialy great musical talent, and it's getting too urban....for country...
When it comes to country music, Bluegrass and Country & Western suit me fine. There are some songs in the Country/Pop category that I enjoy as well.
