Hannah, are you doing a "Restart" after you plug them in? You SHOULD. Windows can recognize new hardware IF it has drivers for them.
If it doesn't recognize them at all, you may need to do one of two things. Either GET the latest drivers, or in Windows XP, "Run" the drivers or programs under compatibility for an earlier version of Windows.

you may need to reinstall the software that came with it. Check the wires too, if they aren't in tight/right, you will get that message as well

 

pnp might be disabled

 

rofl, pretty fucked up if pnp is disabled, no reason it should be. i would plug everything in, cp>add new hardware, then if it does or does not recognize it do a complete restart, and make sure no software came with the cam.
