I just got back from the psych dude's place and he wrote me a script for this for some reason... any ideas on what it is, what it does?

    Thanks,

    What is Remeron?

    • Remeron is in a class of drugs called antidepressants. Remeron affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression.• Remeron is used to relieve symptoms of depression such as feelings of sadness, worthlessness, or guilt; loss of interest in daily activities; changes in appetite; tiredness; sleeping too much; insomnia; and thoughts of death or suicide.

ummm... photogra1... bud... you wanna help me out here man? I looked on their site, and I have no idea what to compare this to at all... the pharmacology makes me believe something other than what Michael said above, but i'm not too sure what any of it means. I did, however, notice the word benzazapine, which is only missing the letters "di" in order to spell another chemical that i see around this site alot... i dunno if theirs any correlation, but any info i can use would be appreciated.

    Um . . .NO!
Remeron (mirtazapine) is a tetracyclic antidepressant. Are you having trouble sleeping? It is great for depression/anxiety combined with sleep problems, which your Adderall would contribute to. I have thought often about asking to try Remeron, because I can NEVER sleep, but I never have.

Mirtazapine is a potent antagonist of 5-HT2, 5-HT3, and histamine (H1) receptors. It increases both noradrenergic and serotonergic activity (ie, it increases BOTH norepinepherine and serotonin in your brain).

I think it is a GREAT drug! Especially, like I already said, if you have sleeping problems in addition to depression/anxiety.

This is a painfully generic drug monograph. It doesn't really tell you much. . . .

I don't see anything about benzapine. It is not a benzodiazepine, or related to one.

Did I answer your questions? If not, let me know. . . !

Well, you certainly answered the majority of my questions, but I did notice under the DESCRIPTION part of the .pdf on www.remeron.com (I think I found it under perscribing info, or it was the other link next to it), that there was the word "benzazepine." This was in the first paragraph. It also said that it belongs to the piperazino-azepine group of compounds. Now I'm not exactly a chemistry whiz, but I do recognize latin and greek prefix and suffix combinations pretty well for the most part. I've seen a lot on chems or compounds with the prefixes benz, and piper, so i'm wondering if there's any correlation and how that might work... if you need a link to the site, lemme know and i'll send ya one.

    Peace, and thanks!

    benzazapine is part of:

    1,2,3,4,10,14b-hexahydro-2-methylpyrazino [2,1-a] pyrido [2,3-c]benzazepine

and it belongs to the piperazino-azepine group of compounds.

This is what I would get on a test and have to be able to draw that chemical structure, or they would give me the diagram of the structure, and I have to come up with that name.

I am not educated enough yet to tell you exactly what all that means. I do understand the pharmacology, though. Don't confuse benzazepine with benzodiazepines (ie, Valium, Xanax, Ativan, etc). They have a completely different mechanism of action. Benzxodiazepines primarily increase the neurotransmitter GABA, whereas Remeron (mirtazapine) increases norepinepherine and serotonin.

    piperazineo-azepine means nothing to me . . .

This is not a drug that will work recreationally. It is sedating, primarily do to its antihistamine activity. The sedation combined with the norepinepherine and serotonin effects make it an excellent drug for anxiety/depression with insomnia. The extra norepinepherine, which will last long after the antihistamine (& sedative) effects subside, will also help with concentration, and may give you a little kick of energy, and maybe a little bit hornier.

    Hope that helps!
    ;)

Woo hoo!!! That's awesome! I took it last night, and I certainly can say that I was ready to pass out within an hour or so! I've never been one to stay up late, but my insomnia tends to kick in around 3 or 4 in the morning, whether i've had anything to drink or not (water and/or alcohol). I'm mainly an insomniac that has trouble staying asleep as opposed to the typical understanding of insomnia, so this was one of the first mornings where the alarm woke me up, and I hated it! For once, I was able to curse my alarm for waking me up... not scaring the shit out of me because I forgot to turn it off four hours before when I would have usually woken up! :)

As for recreational use of this chem... I wouldn't count on it, you're definitely right about that. I did kinda get a feeling like I was slightly stoned last night like right before bed, but I took some tylenol for my back, so it could have joined forces in my brain. I've never been stoned off of tylenol, nor would I ever try that, so i'm assuming it was mostly the pill. Either way, I did notice that I felt more relaxed... like less tense than I normally am. Let's just face it, I'm a stereo-typical paranoid hippie who did too many drugs at too young an age. I see a bug, and usually I have to kill it immediately or else I'll wake up at 3am and look for it because my hair fell on my face and I thought it was the bug. Last night, however, I saw a ladybug and instead of worrying about it crawling in my mouth and trying to set it free (i couldn't kill a ladybug!), I just let it come on in and spend the night! It was an awesome experience. Anyways, I agree with you man, this is a GREAT drug for anxiety and depression. I wouldn't want to pay for it or anything, like go to a dealer type person (like a non-pharmacist dealer), but for the $10 I paid for it, it's got a lot of kick for a low price. I guess it's like my adderall... that's about $10 too.... lol... and my allegra is $20.... imagine that, the one med I KNOW I couldn't hawk off if i tried, costs twice as much as the other two.... what a weird world we live in.... Thanks for the info tho bro!
