For my intro to communications class at school we have to present a persuasive speech to the class. I decided to do mine on why it's better to not wear shoes. My instructor thought it was pretty cool and approved the topic. Just thought I would share that with everyone.
Awesome idea! You should post your speech once you've finished it so we can read it too. Just think of it, if you do a good enough job, you might really persuade some of your classmates to give it a try. Make sure to expound on the greatness of being barefoot in the woods!
I've actually preached the wonders of barefooting to my friends, and one has even tried it! I should do a speech on it....definitely post it once you've done it...I would love to read it!
I hope it's going to go well. I'm in the writing phase right now, it's not due for another week or two. I was going to ask hippie freek 2004 what a stikie was, but then I realized that it was a stupid question and I am an idiot. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.
There's no question you should give the speech while barefoot. How could you possibly be convincing if you won't be seen practicing what you're preaching? Barefoot is the only way to do it. Good luck, and have fun with it. -Jeffrey
If you aren't already a fulltime barefooter why not take this opportunity to live the lifestyle. Ask your instructor to write you a note saying your barefooting is research on your speach topic. You'll then have the OK to barefoot everywhere in preparation for your presentation. Lots of research is available "the barefoot hiker" is great plus all the articles at "barefooters dot org" another interesting paper is called "barefooting to save the world" I think it's by someone called "antera" it talks about stray electric fields and grounding. Good luck on the speach and by all means use the assignment as an excuse to go barefoot every place you can. If you're lucky you can continue after the assignment who's to know you aren't still doing research.
I'm definately going to give it barefoot, how else would you give a speech on the ills of being shod? I'm going to give it on monday, so I'll have a written version within the next couple of days. Here's a sort of rough outline Thesis: to persuade the audience that going barefoot is healthier than wearing shoes I.) Intro purpose of shoes, etc II.) Body A.)Health problems associated with shoes Athlete's foot, flat feet, hammer toes, etc, etc B.) Psychological aspect of shoelessness Just feels good C.)Affects on other folks and your environment get others to take off their shoes things like high heels messing up linoleum floors That's about all I have right now, but more will come soon.
Good stuff man. Don't forget that walking barefoot puts you in contact with the earth both with your sense of touch (an under used sense), and electromagnetically, because there's no rubber soles to insulate yourself away from it. Maybe that (the electromagnetic part) is too personal an opinion (kind of new age too so you may not want to go there, but I believe it), but one can easily argue that being in physical contact with nature will lead to a stronger connection to the earth, a sense of belonging and rootedness, and an environmental outlook. If you know anything about reflexology (massage therepy technique saying how the entier body is reflected in the feet in different zones), it's possible that walking barefoot is not only stimulating and healthy for your feet, but due to the reflexes, it is stimulating for the whole body. Walking barefoot is like a thereputic foot massage! Check these out: http://www.shoebusters.com/ http://www.unshod.org/pfbc/pfrossi2.htm
Well, get this. I was all ready to go on monday, but when I got to the classroom we usethere was a note on the door from the Dean's office. It went something like this: class - speech 101, time - 3:00, Cancelled. -Prepare for speaches on wednesday. So, I get to give it today instead.
It went pretty well, I think. Except for the fact that I give speeches like I think and talk. That is, with lots of strange pauses and bizarre ideas with the occasional loss for words. I can't help it it's just how I work. I'm supposed to be working on an essay in English right now, so I'll put the speech in it's entirety in a few hours.
Looking forward to reading it. Were you able to BF in school as part of your research ? Did you persuade anyone to join you in the BF lifestyle?
