Does anyone know how to beat a speeding ticket. I got caught going 51 in a 35. I live in Kentucky and the ticket is going to cost me 164 dollars. I can't afford to pay it. My girlfreinds car broke down and thats going to cost 300 bucks. So I need to get out of this ticket. That fine is way to high for a poor person. Also my parents insurance will go up it's already outrageous. The car is under my fathers name and so is the insurance so I assume the insurance will go up. Maybe I could go to traffic school. If I go to traffic school will the ticket be dropped and will my insurance stay the same? Also has anyone heard of probation before judgment? and how does it work?
If you go to court, one of several things could happen: The cop who wrote the ticket might not show up or might have lost his copy, in which case the judge has to accept a plea of not guilty. The judge may reduce the fine if you have a reasonable explanation, but don't hold your breath on that one.* The judge may have a low opinion of insurance companies and not issue points. This actually happened to me. (So did the first one. "Officer Church is not here today, so anyone whose summons was written by Officer Church can plead 'not guilty.' Because the burden of proof is on the state, I must accept that plea." One doofus actually pleaded guilty and was asked, "Did you hear what I said about Officer Church?"!) Good luck! * When it comes to explanations, your best bet is to be nice to the cop (although I even got away with a warning from a cop I gave the finger to before I realized he was a cop!), and maybe lie a little. Twice I got off by saying that I realized i had been going too fast and slowed down once I noticed, but that I didn't think I had been going as fast as he clocked me. When he asked how fast I thought I had been going, I said around 70 (he had clocked me at 76 or 77). There's a book called "A Speeder's Guide to Avoiding Tickets" written by a retired NY state cop who shares some of the explanations that worked for him (and some that didn't). He says that most cops realize that its all just a game, with radar manufacturers making money selling state-of-the-art equipment to police departments and then selling state-of-the-art detectors to drivers. (They keep "improving" the technology to keep their lucrative business going at both ends.)
speeding tickets are impossible to get out of, even if you werent speeding, cause at the end of the day its your word against the officers and the courts will always side with the officers if for no other reason than to save time.
It wasn't in a resedential area I was going past a graveyard and no houses were around. You know in 1987 a lot of states interstate speed limits were 55 thats crazy way to slow. The insurance companies fought tooth and nail so the speed limits wouldn't go up to 65. It's just a money thing. Insurance company's pay for cops laser guns. Insurance company's make to much of a profit. High tickets only affect poor people. Speed limits should be higher
Thanks for all the help guys. I've been asking around. The best thing to do is get a garage to say your speedometer is messed up that will at least move it to 10 miles per hour over or less. I'm going to call the clerks office to see when the cops gun was calibrated last and when he last took the test for the laser gun. I may try to postpone the court date as well that way the cop may not show up. Why was I going 51 in a 35? Well everyone speeds some people had a laser gun and they tested this one road where the speed limit was 55 and 90% of the people were speeding! I just got caught and the cop was hidden so I couldn't see him which is illegal.
Its not illegal for the cop to be out of site. Your best bet is to challenge it and pretty much pray the cop doesn't show up. You might get a reduced fine even if he does.
It's not necessarily illegal, but it's very unusual to find a copy who is far out, outtasight, dynamite, or to use the media word, "groovy."
