i was thinking, the porn industry is built by criminals. A sexually abusive man treats women bad all his life, then if hes lucky he can lure desperate women into shooting films with him. If hes "good" he forms a company around these videos and eventually he might hit it big like Play Boy. every porn company began with acriminal. But when these companies become popular and seem legit, people dont care. Not only is the porn industry founded by sex offenders, rapists and perverts, it spawns crime as well. Some people resort to rape to fufill their seemingly meaningless lives. If they have given up all hope, they will do anything to make porn a reality. So they take advantage of, rape, and abuse women, all because of the image porn instills in peoples minds. I believe porn is the biggest factor in regards to the sexual abuse of women. i used to scoff at people who said "porn is the devil!", but now i see that it is indeed. porn is a crime!

i'm not arguing that its admirable

but the porn industry or branches of adult entertainment are exactly that...an industry

theres a steady demand, money to made
many enter for the economic gain....you cant say that its based on the production of criminals....operated by sex offenders, rapists or perverts
    thats a load of crap

even so, its a corrupt industry that dehumanizes women and spawns crime.
theres money to be made in drug dealing but its not legal.

i agree...to an extent, it is a corrupt industry
but that wasnt what i was getting at

what you intially wrote terribly over simplifies sweeping generalisations about adult industries

All major industries are fronted by corrupt people for the most part. To get to high ranks of power, you often have to be corrupt. You will find rapists and perverts in business, as well as political and religious institutions. It's not limited to just porn.

My beef with porn is that it serves as a great tool to dumb people down and distract them. Society is more sexualized than it has even been, while at the same time people are more ignorant to what is going on around them than ever before. And why should anyone care when they are surrounded by a world of material delights?

    That's how most people think.

I am not blaming this just on porn, but the empty, superficial world of sex and materialism in general, which is directly influenced by the media (ie: big money).

I don't think all porn is bad. But some of it is, in my opinion, clearly degrading to women (as well as men). It also instills false ideas in men about how women should perform in bed, in order to be "sexually attractive."

I used to like looking at porn, but it gets old after a while. Too many men spend their lives locked up in the house, pathetically beating off over a magazine, when they can be out looking for an actual woman who is more than just a sex object, but a person as well.

Pressed Rat, I couldn't agree more with your first paragraph! The world is run by criminals. All the big corporations are founded on criminal and unethical activity. To be successful, you have to be the type of person who doesn't care about other people. The biggest evil in the world is industry. By far. All normal criminals do is hurt one or two people, but big industries kill millions of people, destroy the planet and send countries into poverty. The only reason these industries are not put on trial is because they are the ones in control of the world, so they are not accountable.

Colours, as Alex says, you are making a huge generalisation. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that everyone who makes porn is abusive. Not everyone who makes porn is even a man. There are obviously going to be many men in the porn industry who are abusive towards women, just as there are going to be many men in the mining industry who are abusive towards women. It's just statistics.

I'm certainly not abusive — I have the highest respect for women — yet I wouldn't mind making porn. It's something I might do (if I had time).

Personally, I don't thin porn is degrading to women, or men. There are a lot of things that are degrading to women/men (for example, TV commercials are degrading to men) but porn certianly isn't.

Porn is just sex that happens to be captured on film, so if you think porn is degrading then you must think that sex, or sexual attraction is degrading!

I object to the notion that treating a woman, or a man like a sex object is a bad thing. Women are sex objects. Men are sex objects. We are all sex objects. The whole purpose of our being is to have sex. That is why we're here. That is what every molecule in our body is designed to make us do. People can choose to live their lives whatever way they like, and dedicate their lives to anything, but the one thing we all have in common — the one thing we must do as a race — is have sex. If we fail to do that, we cease to exist.

Spiritually, you could argue that the reason we are here is to bring glory to God. But biologically, the only reason we're here is to have sex. It's the same with all species. Sex (more specifically, procreation) is all that matters.

Having sex is obviously a very good and healthy thing (no one would deny that) so why does it become so unhealthy when you film someone having sex? How can filming something turn a good thing into a bad thing?

Please, someone explain it to me because I'm just not getting it. I wish I could, but I don't.

yeah its healthy when its in the name of love, but its not healthy when desperate 20 year old women sell themselves to amateur video directors who promise to "make them a star"--when women are told all their lives that they are supposed to be sexy and so they sell their bodies to men. Sex is beautiful if it is accompanied by love. Porn does not deal with love, but with a physical lust. in a way its an easy way out --instead of learning, experiencing, expanding their minds, porn stars rely soley on their outside appearances to get them through life. whats worse is they dont see that they are only being used.

Colours, what you are saying here is that you object to casual sex.

You're entitled to your opinion, but be clear about what your opinion is! It's sex without love that you object to, not porn. Porn is just a facet of sex without love.

I've never been in love and I've had sex and I see nothing wrong with it. We both enjoyed it, so what is wrong with that?

Both love and lust are part of human nature and both beneficial to procreation. Lust gives us more children (it makes us procreate with more people) and love gives us healthier children (it makes parents more likely to stay together and raise the child better). But both are a natural part of whom we are, and we can't say that either of them is bad, since they're both important.

You could argue that the wellbeing of children has become more important to humans than the number of children bore. Which goes against lust somewhat. But in its defence, lust itself doesn't make children. Lust can be practiced quite safely without making chilren, and in the case of pornography, lust finds a perfect home!

If you have a problem with lust then please explain specifically what is wrong with it.

You have got to be freaking kidding me...

Colours is either trolling or we've been invaded by the last vestiges of the sXe movement.

But assuming you are serious, tell me how you know what happens in the mind of a porn star. Did it ever occur to you that some women simply enjoy sex, enjoy making money, and can do both at the same time? How are you so sure that all young women in the adult industry are forced to perform? With exactly how many of these young women are you personally acquainted?

    Please continue to enlighten us...

Colours- being someone who knows a few exotic dancers and adult actors/actresses, I have to say that your view of how the porn industry works is VERY wrong. Sure, there might be situations like what you've described, but that hardly speaks for the majority of pornography. The people I know who got into it did it out of their own choice. They were not desperate. They were not lured into it. They did it because they WANTED to do it. And yes, they are into casual sex without love. It is posible to enjoy sex without love and not be abused.

I've also been to Amsterdam where prostitution is legal. Seeing these girls in the window, they look to be just working a job like anyone else. I've seen some through the window hanging out with friends or family until a client approaches them. OR chatting on their mobile phones and laughing to whomever they're talking to. While I might not frequent one, I don't see where they're being abused, mistreated in any way.

Where do you find your info and come to these absurd conclusions about pornography? I'd like to see some legit studies regarding this.
