What these pathetic loser shoplifters don't understand (need to be intelligent to grasp it) when they say that it "only costs the company money and they get it back" is that the loss is shuffled on down the line to the consumer.

How do you think the store arrives at the price of their items? They know how much inventory they ordered. They keep track of how much got sold. The balance is what was either stolen, broken, or spoiled. Some items are almost never stolen. Some are stolen a lot. Do you think that they don't average out the cost of the lost items distributed a little bit over every item they sell? If they lose $1000 a week in CDs, they'll ammortize that amount into what they charge for EVERYTHING. If they have "insurance" against shoplifting losses, that insurance costs them money. If they lose a lot, they pay more for the insurance. The more that's stolen, the more the insurance costs. The more the insurance costs, the more they have to charge on each little item to break even.

Only a fool would think that the stores and their insurance companies simply agree to eat the cost of what's lost. DUH. They pass that back into what WE ALL PAY for what they sell.

I've heard that magnets will de-activate the electronic thing, but I've never had the urge to try it out.

As for the aluminum foil thing, I've seen it work several times, and been there when it didn't once. I think it all depends on the type of electronic tag they have.
