I was chillen at home, drinking w/ my friends...and my heart was beating really fast, and i couldn't make it slow down...i was taking deep breathes...trying to relax. Then i got really warm, and kind of panicky. Drinking didn't seem to help. So i go to the bathroom, and my forearms and biceps were covered in splotchy red hives...and my face was all flushed...i even had red spots on my back and stomache! I was all freaked out, so i grabbed a glass of ice water, and went outside to chill out (literally..i live in CO...it was below freezing, lol) Came back in, and after a few minutes, it all went away....it was weird and it's never happened to me before. Any ideas what was up?
sounds like a panic attack to me but i never have had hives from a panic attack, that sounds like alergic reaction but they wouldnt go away that fast, weird.........the racing heart and panic was a panic attack the hives part is just weird
I get big red blotches all over my upper chest (hives) when I'm really upset or anxious. It's always a dead give-away at how upset I am. *lol*
I've been this way since I was an infant. It really sounds like you had an anxiety attack. Maybe it was more intense that time as compared to others?
What were you drinking.... I get hives from malt liquors and wine coolers, wine.. anything that contains sulfites (about hald the population is allergic to them but not enought to be bothered by them)
I've been diagnosed with depression before, and i've felt anxiety before. I sometimes thought i had been misdiagnosed, but i've never had a full on panic attack before like that. I definitely think it was one though. weird
The blotches could have been a histamine release from the alcohol. The heart thing could well be mitral valve prolapse. A benign heart condition, very common, but often misdiagnosed as anxiety. A good doctor will be able to hear a clicking or murmuring sound between beats if you have MVP. There is usually little treatment for it, but sometime meds will be given if you have a lot of attacks. Please see your doctor, and let her know to listen for this. But it could as well just have been a garden variety anxiety attack. Eat well, get enough sleep, and stay away from weed and alcohol, and you may feel better. If not, again, please see your doctor.
I have a friend who is alerigic to alcohol and that is what happens to her when she drinks. She still drinks and I think it's a dumb idea, but you can make people do things. Anyway you might want to get tested for alcohol alergies
Were you drinking something other than your normally do? Some things can cause more histamine release than others. Red wine tends to do this, but it can occur with any alchol, with any person. And depending on how your other allergies are doing (if you have any) even a slight histamine problem could cause the problem you had. My dh drinks a lot and he only flushes like this occasionally. Seeing your doctor would be a good idea.
