McGee is correct. All that is necessary is a concept of a god to exist. There is no presupposition that any god exists in actuality.
We don't deny god... we do not believe one exists.. It's not a case of denying god, it's a case of one not existing at all.
Right. It is a turn of phrase that is the issue here. You deny the concept of God existing. You believe that God does not exist, correct? And he is saying that atheists deny the fact God's existence and that, therefore, God's existence is a "fact" because the premise is accepted? I hate semantics.
Oh rebellious brood - just listen to yourselve. If you denied the existence of your hands (even via 'concept') you'ld have to stop picking your noses.
You listen to yourself.. you're acting all big and tough, telling us we're wrong beause we don't believe in your god.. all we ask is one simple thing... to prove that god exists...
I must admit that I am stumped - why so many non-Christians flock to the 'Christianity' forum. Just can't find a spark all your own, can you?
I'd not say that I've flocked anywhere, i'm just doing my best to inform you of your error. Why not, rather than change the subject, you provide me with some evidence that god exists? Because so far I've failed to see any at all...
as an atheist, i deny the mainstreams concept of god, i think "god" is just mass hysteria to keep people in fear of being themselves, and denying their true nature of the human animal
Careful, now! Doing your best to inform me of my error makes you the preachy Christian; only upside-down. If you will try to prove to me something of yourself (say, open eyes, for example), I'll try to prove to you something of myself (say, God, for example). If you are up to the attempt, I'll let you know if you succeed.
no...... that makes no sense, daniel. those who believe in god have made a positive statement of something's existence; those who do not have made a negative statement. the positive requires proof and explanation while the negative requires nothing. if you say "i believe in unicorns", i'd say, "i don't." my denial in no way indicates that unicorns do in fact exist. ???
I think in western culture christianity impacts an athiests life, wether they want it to or not. There is nothing wrong with an athiest discussing christianity in a forum that was meant for it. Not to mention they may have been attracted by the thread named "Athiests"
Christanity is such a large part of the western world that it's impossable to not be infulanced by it.. and that's not all so bad, as much as I hate to admit it, they do have some good ideas.. I just don't happen to agree with everything...
You're all cool. I thank you for allowing me to put in my two cents worth. I speak to you; I acknowledge your existence; I believe in you.
Umm... Ostrichs DO exist. Have you ever been to a zoo or even opened a National Geograophic magazine?? Why is it that Atheists spend so much time and energy railing against something that they claim doesn't exist? BTW: How does the dictionary define an insomniac, agnostic, dyslexic? Someone that stays awake at night wondering if there's a Dog.
