Since I can't get my favorite Research Chemical 4-acetoxy-DET anymore, I decided to order some Salvia (15x), a Butane Lighter, and a wooden pipe. The thing is, I heard you can take this stuff orally and get a simliar effect, but the details are always lacking in what I'm reading. I have a feeling you're just supposed to stick a small amount under your tongue for a few minutes. I have a feeling that will be the nastiest tasting thing. Can you just swallow it in the middle of a wad of cookie dough or something? Also, what is the difference in dosage from smoking a 15x extract of Salvia over using it orally? I checked a few pages back and didn't see a post that brought up the oral use of Salvia, thus the reason I posted.
Here's some dosage info: http://www.erowid.org/plants/salvia/salvia_faq.shtml#methods Since stomach acid can destroy most of the material, you'd need to ingest a much larger amount to feel the effects.
salvinorin a wont absorb into your bloodstream through your stomach, not at regular dose anyway), so no you cant swallow it and expect to trip. it needs to enter via your mucosa membrane in yur mouth particulary under your tongue and it needs more than just a few minutes. more like at least twenty. dried leaves a chewing dose is 2-4 grams, and it taste very bitter, not the nastiest but terrible for most people. you can buy a tincture so you dont have to chew, but they are still bitter and burn like hell because of the alcohol. you can also grow a plant, mazatecan shamanic dose is 13 pairs of large fresh leaves rolled up and chewed thoroughly, slighlty less bitter than dry leaves. hmm.. thats all i can help you with...
smoking is most effective. for oral you need 20x as much and it lasts only 4 times as long - even though the peak is more continuous you do not notice that it is since our minds are somewhat discontinuous anyway you can check up on leander valdez - one of the original researchers he is occasionally active on the net (not this board) lots of oral information I have tested all of his reports and they are true including oral consumption in fluids. the LORE of salvia has got mangled along the way; the term SUBLINGUAL is used wrongly. It literally does mean below your tongue, but: A) a quid has to be chewed B) it is far too big to fit under your tongue (and is not effective as a blotter unless it is chewed - I have made cigarette paper blotters and they are much better smoked). C) salvinorin works by a narrow scale of threasholding which means you need at least a certain amount in the blood to notice the effect. that amt will get in the blood fastest - nearly instantly through the wide aggregate absorption surface of the highly vascularized alvioli of the lungs (smoked / inhaled as vapor) or more slowly through the gut and mucous membranes of the pharynx and mouth by increasing the concentration at these smaller areas of less vascularized absorptive surfaces. D) it reaches more surface if you flush it through the gut than if it just sits. E) it is a waxy crystal and it will pass through undigested if it is not chewed or pulverized.
Is it possible to OD on Salvia or is it like Mary Jane and you have to smoke 14 pounds in 15 minutes or some crazy stuff?
no known deaths have occurred, but the good effects start at ~300 mics/minute absorption salvinorin they can be manically intense at ~500 mics/minute absorption salvinorin they reach amnesia or anaesthesia at ~900 mics/minute absorption salvinorin but you can take 5 or 10 times that by inhallation and it is not any worse - 10 minutes later it's like "whoa what happenned". a really big quid will have more than 20,000 mics of salvinorin (enough for 50 smoked voyages), and the trickled threashold will be close to 300 mics/minute salvinorin but it is sustained for 20 minutes, delayed by 10 minutes, and downramped for 20 minutes.
I disagree...refer to the LSD forum for this information. Use it in whichever way you feel is going to be more beneficial to your self...if you want an intense 5-minute experience...smoke. If you feel like a 4-hour, dissociative experience is more your thing, chew. And yes, I've heard of people OD'ing on salvia (it works on the kappa-opiod receptor)...PCP x LSD, if you will...though take my info with a grain of salt, I will do some research.
the od is just blackout the ld-50 is as high as vitamine B-6, you can take more leaf or 10x than you can fit in your mouth or joint and not die. the essential nature of psychedelic experience is the same as LSD, though the initial chemical site of activation is k-opiod (confirmed in vitro tests only) http://sagewisdom.org/wangetal.pdf - just out now. beginning to question the in vivo action. but the nature of the experience is extended duration of the fading of cortical images. i.e. all experiences persist longer anything approached in the mind may cycle (echo) due to sustained approach anything glanced at can become a hall of mirrors etc. anything remembered can overlay quite solidly upon ongoing consiousness. these things are fundamental and common to all psychedellics at greater and lesser degrees. salvia ramps up most rapidly to full psychedellic effect and that seems very different in it's shock quality.
Using quids will not give you a 4 hour disassociative experience. Smoked, it takes only 1 minute for effects to come on, they then peak for 5 to 10 minutes (very high dosages peak a little longer and more intensely), then you will have a comedown effect that is somewhat like a "high" where speech/motor-skills are effected and thoughts aren't very solid, and that will last for 20-30 minutes. Overall, effects gained by smoking peak for 5-10 minutes and last in total for up to an hour (usually not more than that though). Weak experiences don't peak and have a shorter, gentler comedown. Using a quid, it will take 15 minutes for effects to begin to set in, and another 15 before they start coming on strong. (at that point, most people stop chewing the quid and spit it out) Then, peak effects last for 30 minutes to an hour, and then comedown also lasts for another 30 minuets to an hour. At most, quid experiences should only last about 2 hours, 2 and a half hours for extremely strong dosages. About overdoses: If you smoke (or otherwise consume) enough Salvia, then it may come to pass that you will lose consciousness or become uncontrollable, or at least you won't remember what happened during your experience (called amnesic effects). So I guess technically it could be considered an "overdose." However, even with an overdose, Salvia divinorum isn't (or at least hasn't been shown by research to be) harmful to the body in any known way. It's not life-threatening, and the only way it could be life-threatening is if you were being an idiot and weren't using a sitter; you could fall down a flight of stairs and break an arm or something. But that risk lies with any psychadelic; that's why you always use a sitter for powerful experiences.
Good info. I am pleased. I haven't gotten my pipe yet, and I'm not going to chew on stuff for 20 minutes, so I just ate a quarter gram of 15x extract and will see if anything happens. edit: Now we're up to a half gram of 15x.
Don't eat it! Salvinorin-A doesn't permeate the blood stream through the stomach well. It has to be taken sublingually or smoked for you to get the effects.
the term sublingual is bad - really very inapproriate for salvia. it has to be chewed it is a waxy crystal it wont absorb like acid under the tongue it will just sit there. it must be chewed or pre-mashed. then it needs to float through the gut- lungs have a huge surface area and absorb alvinorin from smoke very fast. the gut has a much smaller surface area so you have to use a liquid to suspend tiny chewed particles, if you have no patience to chew - dont bother with oral - it will use 20 times as much anyway without chewing you could swallow 100 times as much and it would barely do anything.
True. Sublingual literally means "under the tongue," and chewing a quid is hardly under the tongue. But either way, the salvinorin-A is absorbed through the lining of the mouth, and is BEST absorbed under the tongue (which is where you would place a drop of salvinorin-A tincture, if you had any, though I don't recommend it at all for personal use).
Ten leaves averaging 3.4–4 inches wide and 9 inches long (and weighing 25–26 grams) have the midribs removed. These are rolled into two ‘cigars’ of five leaves each. Laying in quiet darkness, the first cigar is placed in the mouth and held there, chewing it slowly with my front teeth. I do not swallow at all. After about 10 minutes I spit this out into a bowl, and start chewing the second cigar. Effects usually commence within about 5 minutes after beginning to chew the second cigar. I spit this cigar out after a 10 minute chew. The experience lasts about 45–60 minutes (from start to finish)." i read this on erowid anyone try it cause i cant smoke anymore but i still want to try salvia are the effects still strong, is it worth trying salvia this way
Well, I smoked a ton of the 15x extract and it is a nice mild feeling. The worlds spins inside your eyes a little. I only seem to be able to only go so far with the stuff though. Oh well, it's nice.
hiraku; not sure why you think it is best absorbed under the tongue. the size of that area is not that large, and it has no special absorption co-efficient higher than the rest of all the mucosa in the body. the literature mentions oral absorption but it is flawed in many ways and inconsistent scientifically. maybe it is just a wish to not go against established lore and belief. I bet even Siebert has not worked through this yet. leander valdez however has reported great absorption from gut using a drink prepared by a shaman in mexico in which the leaf was mashed. my experiments with teas and tinctures prove faster and more effective absorption NOT FROM sublingual. and I have used DMSO for tinctures, the mouth is really not the best place for this stuff. Quid is quid for the chewing and it must be chewed well. keeping it in the mouth is so you don't underchew quid. that is all.
Well first off, it's Hikaru, not Hiraku. Hehe Either way, I'm under the impression that there are more cappillaries underneath the tongue than on the roof of your mouth. I'm pretty sure this is fact, but I guess I don't really have any sources to prove it, so ... your guess is as good as mine.
