Since there are many people here that obviously love debate:

    1) What is the primary thing that really draws you to debate?

    2) What do you find most frustrating about debate?

primary thing that draws me to debate... If there's something I can think of that's not already been covered, or a thought that no one's thought of that I can point out.

Most frustrating thing about debating: Trying to say something with out coming across as just picking a fight =) Keeping calm if it's something I care about, and trying not to hurt other people's feeling's while expressing my own

    1) What is the primary thing that really draws you to debate?

The stimulation of it all, i love to think. To debate seems to me an enjoyable activity. I can say, I have learned things from people on here. I love to learn about people, so the broad range of ideas or opinions is always neat to study.

    2) What do you find most frustrating about debate?

I find that most people's goal is not to discover the truth, but to suppress it through intimidation, and that they'll only use facts or logic when it suits them. Also, people with closed-minds.

the only thing that drives me to debate is if it's a subject I know well and if someone is saying something that I highly disagree with.

THe thing that drives me nuts about debating, is that people can tell thier side, but rarely listen. That's a huge part. Also, most people can't take having their views challenged without bringing up a personal insult or questioning the person's intelligence. I find myself guilty of this at times. A real, solid debate with no personal attacks is hard to find.

mmm, I agree. That's why I try to put my thoughts across and still sound neutral, but some people get annoyed and think it's a person attack on them

I think I should say anther thing. I rarely debate with people here, unless I know what I'm talking about, or if I'm pissing off someone for kicks.

At home, I will debate my boyfriend over anything, all day long. I get this sick satisfaction out of winning, because i always do. Erik isn't good with words and forgets his point a lot. I shouldn't take advantage of that, but I do. Feelings never get hurt, but he doesn't have the confidence to debate me when he really feels strongly about something. I feel bad about that.
