Trump tariffs: 'A deal is a deal,' EU insists

    excerpt:

"The European Commission on Sunday demanded that the United States respect the terms of a trade deal reached last July.

The call from Brussels comes after US President Donald Trump said he was raising a global 10% tariff to 15% in response to the US Supreme Court blocking many of his emergency tariffs."

    Trump's Argentine buddy Milei.

Milei is the one who gifted Elon Musk a big chain saw. Trump also gave Milei $20 billion in U.S. taxpayer money to bail out the peso.

Musk was on stage prancing on stage with chainsaw as a way of rejoicing in the federal government jobs he gutted by picking on the most vulnerable new workers who were the most easy to fire.

Since 2015 Trump has been promising Americans high quality, inexpensive healthcare.

He sends a hospital ship to Greenland to take care of the health of Greenlanders.

    That's America First.

Countries around the world need to send a whole fleet of psychiatric ward medical ships to the U.S.

They can be permanently anchored in the Potomac River and treat Trump and the rest of the politicians in DC who won't stand up to him.

Two CBP Agents Identified in Alex Pretti Shooting

    excerpt:

"In the initial aftermath, Stephen Miller, a top Trump aide and a leading force behind the immigration enforcement operations, called Pretti “a would-be assassin.” But Miller changed tack later in the week when he said in a statement that CBP officers “may not have been following” protocol related to confronting bystanders."

A familiar uncertainty as the world grapples with fresh Trump tariff turmoil

    excerpt:

One day later, he said in a Truth Social post that he would be immediately “raising the 10% Worldwide Tariff on Countries, many of which have been ‘ripping’ the U.S. off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!), to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level.”

The United States’ European allies, now more than familiar with Trump’s rapidly shifting tariff threats after more than a year of diplomacy, criticized the new measures and called for unity across the continent.

In Saturday remarks made before Trump announced the 15% rate, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned of the “poison” of more uncertainty around tariffs.

“I will go to Washington with a coordinated European position,” he told reporters on Saturday, according to Reuters. “The biggest poison for the economies of Europe and the U.S. is this constant uncertainty about tariffs. And this uncertainty must end,” Merz added.

"Yes, Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin strongman, had developed a taste for wielding Russia’s hard power. Putin’s wars in Chechnya, Georgia and Syria, as well as military action in Crimea and eastern Ukraine, had delivered him success at a relatively low cost."

Trump invited war-mongering Putin (bored of peace) to the Trump 'Board of Peace'.

Putin's war on Ukraine is now four years old (February 24th is the anniversary of Putin's invasion).

Trump has been in office for a year and a month in his second term. He said he would stop the Ukraine war within 24 hours.

At the time, he said he couldn't say how he would do it because it would give away the surprise tactic.

Trump has been using Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to impose import tariffs.

    Trade Expansion Act - Wikipedia

    excerpt:

"Section 232 of the act permits the president to impose tariffs based on a recommendation by the U.S. secretary of commerce if "an article is being imported into the United States in such quantities or under such circumstances as to threaten or impair the national security."[3] This section was used only in 1979 and 1982,[3] and had not been invoked since the creation of the World Trade Organization in 1995,[4] until President Trump cited it on March 8, 2018, to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum.[citation needed]"

Authoritarians, strongmen and dictators: who is on Trump’s Board of Peace?
Representatives of repressive regimes from around the world are flying to Washington for the inaugural meeting of the body
    Oliver Holmes

Authoritarians, strongmen and dictators: who is on Trump’s Board of Peace?

    excerpt:

"A grouping of largely oppressive and authoritarian world leaders and their envoys are flying to Washington for the inaugural meeting of Donald Trump’s newly established Board of Peace.

The body was created to implement his vision for Gaza’s future after it was destroyed by Israel, but Trump has widened its scope, calling it “the most consequential international body in history”.

Global powers, including Washington’s traditional allies, fear the US-led body is an attempt to side-step the more democratic United Nations and replace it with a fee-paying members’ club run on the whims of a single man."

Jean Galbraith on the Supreme Court’s Rejection of Trump’s Emergency Tariffs

    excerpt:

"The U.S. Supreme Court issued a 6-3 majority opinion in Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump, finding that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not authorize a president to impose tariffs. President Donald Trump declared national emergencies, citing an influx of illegal drugs from Canada, Mexico, and China, and ongoing trade deficits affecting U.S. manufacturing and supply chains."

The U.S. Supreme Court struck down Trump's use of the IEEPA to impose tariffs on other countries.

Trump declared the U.S. trade deficit and the influx of illegal drugs to be a national emergency.

Trump is the first president to use the IEEPA in such a manner.

Supreme Court strikes down most of Trump's tariffs in a major blow to the president

    excerpt:

Business owners who had to pay the tariffs and challenged them in court expressed relief at the ruling.

"These new tariffs were arbitrary, unpredictable, and bad business," Victor Schwartz, who runs New York-based wine and spirits importer VOS Selections, said in a statement.

"Thankfully, courts at every level recognized these duties for what they were: unconstitutional government overreach," he added.

Judge Cannon permanently blocks release of Jack Smith report
The Trump-appointed judge said releasing the classified docs report now would “contravene basic notions of fairness and justice.”
By Kyle Cheney and Josh Gerstein02/23/2026 09:41 AM ESTUpdated: 02/23/2026 10:28 AM EST

    https://www.politico.com/news/2026/02/23/judge-cannon-jack-smith-classifed-docs-report-00792748

    excerpt:

"Cannon has drawn scrutiny for rulings that favor Trump and cut against longstanding practice and precedent. She delayed the classified documents case for months when she installed an independent overseer to review materials seized from Mar-a-Lago — until a federal appeals court overturned her decision.

Cannon rejected the speedy schedule that Smith sought for the criminal case and threw it out on the day Trump was formally nominated at the 2024 Republican National Convention, a week after the assassination attempt that nearly took his life."
