A justice department memo issued on Tuesday said “effective immediately”, prisons and jails will no longer be held responsible for violations of standards meant to shield LGBTQ+ people from harassment, abuse and rape. It also directed inspectors to stop auditing facilities for compliance with those protections.
The directive relates to regulations under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), a longstanding federal law which said incarcerated people should be screened for their risk of facing sexual assault when officials place them in housing and that assessments must consider LGBTQ+ status. PREA, passed unanimously by Congress in 2003, included standards aimed at addressing the high levels of violence that transgender, gender-nonconforming and queer people face in jails and prisons across the US.

Seems to be more of a well waxed slide down to hell... perhaps in a hand basket. Too bad the deplorables are at the top now... they need a bit of a push downslope.

It tells us that if someone doesn't meet someone else's standard for gender, it is lawful to rape them.

What this means, in effect, is that it is now lawful to rape a certain segment of society.

This puts a lot of inmates in grave danger and despite a court blocking that fucker's EO - did the block get removed or is this another example of how the law and associated processes don't apply to him?

These inmates are targeted for abuse and should have protections.

He promised to roll the country back to the "good old days" of the 1950s and this is just one more thing that's taking us backward. He thinks we were better back then - and we weren't. We were prejudiced; stodgy and hidebound to a ridiculous sense of moral decency. Criminals had no rights to anything, not even their lives when behind bars; if they got killed, oh, well - leaves an empty cot in a cell for the next person to run afoul of the law and even if they were actually innocent of a crime. The Moral Majority ran the country, mandated its behavior which was deplorable and totally fucked up for those who had to work for a living and people of color were still getting shat upon until the 1960s came along and upset the apple cart and when smart people started questioning and protesting our involvement in Vietnam - and the Summer of Love got naked and everyone was fucking... everyone else.

All of this and much more came to be because in the 1950s, America wasn't really all that nice and we had people like Donald Trump making this country ugly while hiding the fact that it was ugly from the rest of the world. Rich white people ran the country back then and this president wants to go back to the way it was and he's still getting away with shit that no other POTUS could get away with. In the 1950s, anyone who was queer was hated, vilified, and had little to no rights as an American because of their unholy sexual alliances and if these people went to prison and lost their lives to imprisoned homophobes, tough titty.

According to the Moral Majority, those freaks didn't deserve to live in the first place. Good riddance to bad garbage. And with a stroke of his pen, Donald Trump has devalued a lot of lives that he can't stand in the first place because if you're not like him, you're beneath him. He's letting his personal beliefs fuck with this country and he's getting away with it and has no alliances to the people of this country and that includes the idiots who put him back in the office again... and they didn't learn how he fucked them in the ass the last time he was in office.
