That was the first track on the album, and (in case no one knows) they were the first ones to cover it and make it a rock song (it was written and sung by a country western singer some years before). But their version was a little too harsh for the radio so, while it was popular, it didn't get a lot of air play until The Who covered it.

They were one of the first Acid Rock bands and are therefore considered by many to be the true father of Heavy Metal. They were one of the first bands to be banned by numerous recording studios because they played so loud they damaged equipment. Today I have several of their first albums on CD, and the History of Blue Cheer CD, which is a great compilation.

Here is something from their 3rd album (or was this their 2nd? I forget). I think the guitar solo that starts at 1:55 was one of the greater guitar solos of acid rock:

I even wrote a screenplay for an antiwar movie about a young kid that is drafted, sent to Vietnam, and is killed---not like his buddies on the battlefield, but by the jealous boyfriend of a bar girl he became infatuated with, even though the only affection she returns for his attention is nothing more than doing her job, and cultivating gifts and money from him and other customers that she likewise garnered the attention of. It ends with his body stuffed into a grimy dirty dumpster behind the bar. The entire soundtrack is nothing but Blue Cheer songs from the first several albums.

Sorry to make the thread a little acid heavy-----but I just happened to find this video which has the lyrics----including one of my favorite lyric phrases of the band----"I see a reflection of violence, in the ocean of life that exists."

This song was of course part of the screenplay I mentioned above. This song actually inspired the screenplay.

They've gotten to where they seriously hate ad blockers (because of course money money money), even when I login on any of adblocking browsers I sometimes can't get anything to play. Or even get youtube to open.

And I also think that they hate VPNs just as much as not making money on video ads.

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching----how many of you listen to this on Thanksgiving?

I try to keep it as a Thanksgiving tradition, but the kids aren't so interested I think.

In High School we had an anthropology club. But those of us in the know knew that it was really just a get together and go to foreign themed restaurants and eat great food club run by the anthropology teacher. (This is how I learned about my favorite 1st-date-restaurant that I would take girls to on a first date in order to blow their minds----a Moroccan restaurant where you'd sit on the floor, eat with your hands, sometimes had belly dancers, and eat incredible Moroccan food, including Moroccan Pastilla, which I still insist is probably the only dish on earth, that comes directly from the table of the gods in heaven...) The most anthropological thing we did was go on a 4 or 5 day field trip to Chaco Canyon. The teacher brought 2 girls with her from another high school. One of them was this kind of Ali McGraw like brunette with an afro that I immediately had a bit of a crush on. We put our sleeping bags together in the tent and talked well into the night each night. During our talks Alice's Restaurant came up, and she said that she had the LP, and she would lend it to me.

A week after the trip we were supposed to all get together at the teacher's house and share pictures and what all over dinner. This girl brought her LP, and gave it to me, with a note with her phone number, and that when I am ready to return it to her we could meet for a date. She was really hot, and I was excited. BUT----I loved Alice's Restaurant. I really did intend to listen to it a few times, and then call her up.

She had brown eyes, she was tall and skinny, but had a nice waist, her afro was perfect for her face... A bit of a dark sexy complexion (like Ali McGraw)... But there were girls at school I had a crush on too. You know... Alice's Restaurant has a great story... and good music... Even if you had to flip the album over half way through it. It is a great album!

Yes, I still have that album today. I don't have her phone number. I don't even remember her name. But every Thanksgiving I can put that album on!

By the way----Blue Cheer didn't put out just acid rock.

I always loved this song from a later album----their singer (Dickie Peterson) was almost like, what if Janis Joplin had a younger brother? This song really allows you to hear him:

I believe he is still alive and living in San Francisco. He has an instagram page.
