Hey guys, late at night and finished a pretty wild weekend a few hours back. I’m really sore, but no visit to the doctor this morning ! Was this some sort of special doctor? I've gone to my doctor with some embarrassing maladies before and I was never embarrassed because the people in the waiting room never knew my reason for being there. Well, it was a women’s health clinic connected to a hospital that is 24/7 and on the weekends or late night, often women who work the street or those who were abused or both are the more usual customers. I have never liked going to a doctor office with a waiting room. I did go to the clinic at the University in the U.S. where I attended and was not a great experience. My doctor is a well know womens health doctor and we are friends now.

 

You have socialized medicine…how often do you get to see her as opposed to an assistant?

 

Here in the "states" you pretty much have to wait no matter where you go. You have to wait in the doctors' offices, you have to wait in the clinics, you have to wait at urgent care and most times you even have to wait in the emergency room unless you are actually dying or bleeding to death!!!! My impression (which goes back before COVID) was that US Healthcare was really good with highly advanced specialist…however very expensive including prescription medications. Our socialized medicine was good too, and cheap, but we were the ones who had the long waits, especially for chronic or elective procedures.

 

I guess it depends on what you consider a long wait. These days it takes me about 3 months to get an appointment to see my GP.
