    The presidential 'pocket recission'.

Donald Trump Wins Supreme Court Fight to Withhold Billions in Foreign Aid

    excerpt:

The president used what is known as a “pocket rescission.” Under federal law, presidents can request that Congress cancel spending toward the end of a budget year, but lawmakers must approve the request within 45 days. Trump issued his notice so late in the fiscal year that the 45-day clock will not expire before Sept. 30. The White House contends that Congress’s inaction means the money does not have to be spent.

Donald Trump Wins Supreme Court Fight to Withhold Billions in Foreign Aid

    excerpt:

"The decision underscores the Trump administration’s reliance on emergency appeals to achieve major policy goals. In recent years, the Supreme Court has allowed Trump to strip legal protections from hundreds of thousands of migrants, fire federal employees, oust transgender service members from the military and remove the heads of independent agencies — all through fast-track appeals decided without full hearings or written opinions.

Though the rulings are not final, they give Trump the upper hand in contested legal battles while cases work their way through lower courts. Critics say the pattern blurs the line between normal judicial review and presidential efforts to consolidate power."

Another 6-3 conservative Supreme Court ruling in favor of Trump.

    excerpt:

"The court’s decision could effectively give the president a roadmap to cancel more congressionally approved money in the future. And it comes as Congress is barreling toward a deadline Tuesday night to fund the government or risk shuttering federal agencies.

The court’s three liberal justices – Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson – dissented from the decision."

Biden preemptively pardoned the Jan. 6 Committee members in anticipation of the retribution prosecution Trump did to Comey this week.

    excerpt:

Meanwhile, Schiff, whose clashes with the president include his management of Trump’s first impeachment trial in 2020, has formed a legal defense fund amid a probe from the Justice Department into his finances.

“In my almost six years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, I never witnessed such a blatant abuse of the department,” he said of the case against Comey in a Thursday post on X. “The DOJ is now little more than an arm of the president’s retribution campaign.”

Trump prosecutor makes embarrassing mistake in Comey indictment — and gets nailed

    excerpt:

“The charges as alleged in this case represent a breach of the public trust at an extraordinary level,” Halligan said in her statement, adding: “The balance of power is a bedrock principal of our democracy, and it relies upon accountability and a forthright presentation of facts from executive leadership to congressional oversight.”

A number of social media users quickly pointed to a spelling error — which should read “principle” rather than “principal.”

Remark by Halligan who prosecuted Comey this week.

She has no previous prosecutorial experience.

She's a former finalist in the Miss Colorado beauty pageant.

Lindsey Halligan said: "Sports and pageants taught me confidence, discipline, and how to handle pressure—on the court, on the field, on the stage, in the courtroom and now in the White House."

Looks like her beauty pageant experience didn't teach her too much about spelling.

James Comey Indictment Could Backfire for Trump Prosecutors: Legal Analyst James Comey indictment could backfire for Trump prosecutors: legal analyst

    excerpt:

The indictment alleges that Comey "willfully and knowingly" (18 U.S.C. §1001) (1) denied authorizing anyone at the FBI to serve as an anonymous media source regarding an investigation and (2) falsely claimed he could not recall key intelligence briefings related to the 2016 election. Each count carries up to five years in prison.

Comey responded swiftly. "My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I’m innocent, so let’s have a trial," he said in a video statement on September 26. His attorney, Patrick Fitzgerald, said they look forward to "vindicating him in the courtroom."

A public relations ad by the Trump administration.

"America has been invaded by criminals and predators. We need YOU to get them out."

    Trump loves pageantry.

It's not unexpected that he would hire a former beauty pageant finalist and someone with no prosecutorial experience to indict Comey.

Trump promised retribution - how far will he go?

    excerpt:

"His demand a week ago that the Justice Department prosecute a handful of named political opponents, for instance, is the kind of thing that, when it was discussed in private and revealed in Oval Office recordings a half-century ago, prompted a bipartisan outcry that led to Richard Nixon's resignation as president.

Now it is just a blip in the weekly news cycle. And the pace at which Trump is expanding presidential authority in order to impose his will is, if anything, accelerating."
