Chairman Trump: has the US turned its back on free-market capitalism?

    excerpt:

Under a “little deal” he struck with Nvidia, the world’s most highly valued company will provide 15% of certain chip sales in China. Apple, threatened with steep tariffs by the president, came to the White House bearing gifts: $100bn in further US investment, and a souvenir with a 24-karat gold base.

No issue is too small for Chairman Trump. He waded into the debate over the mid-sized casual-dining chain Cracker Barrel’s changed logo earlier this week, dispatching his deputy chief of staff to speak with the firm and ultimately helping convince it to reverse the decision – weeks after pushing Coca-Cola to launch a drink with cane sugar, rather than corn syrup.

In that cartoon, Trump's red tie is far too small and his hands are way too big.

Another example of Trump retaliating with no legal basis or evidence.

Article from May 2025 about the Trump administration's detention of a Tufts University student.

    https://www.npr.org/2025/05/09/nx-s...turk-ordered-freed-from-immigration-detention

    excerpt:

At a bail hearing earlier in the day, Judge William K. Sessions of the U.S. District Court for Vermont said that her arrest and detention appeared likely to have been carried out solely in retaliation for an op-ed she wrote in a campus newspaper criticizing her school leaders' response to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

"I suggested to the government that they produce any additional information which would suggest that she posed a substantial risk," Sessions said. "And that was three weeks ago, and there has been no evidence introduced by the government other than the op-ed. That literally is the case. There is no evidence here."

Sessions added: "The court finds that Ms. Öztürk has raised a substantial claim of a constitutional violation."

Another instance of Trump providing 'no evidence'.

LA and Chicago are not on the list.

Trump has sent troops to LA, although it sounded like his intent was for his immigration crackdown.

He has talked about sending the military into Chicago to fight crime but backed off that assertion last week.

Trump should be talking about sending the military into Memphis and Houston which are in red states.

    https://www.wkrg.com/news/here-are-10-cities-with-the-highest-crime-rates/

    excerpt:

Memphis, the second-biggest city in the red state of Tennessee, tops the list with 2,501 violent crimes per 100,000 people, according to data from the FBI.

Detroit closely trails Memphis with a violent crime rate of 1,781 per 100,00 and a rate of 31.2 homicides per 100,000 residents.

Baltimore had 1,606 violent crimes and 34.8 homicides per 100,000 people last year.

Kansas City, Mo., saw 1,547 violent offenses per 100,000 people in 2024. Last year, the city saw a 12 percent increase in nonfatal shootings and tallied 144 homicide cases.

The city of Milwaukee had 1,431 violent crimes per 100,000.

The FBI reported that 1,182 violent crimes occurred per 100,000 residents in Albuquerque, the largest city in the blue state of New Mexico.

Houston saw 1,148 crimes per 100,000 people last year, and violent crime in the red state of Texas’s largest city increased by about 4.5 percent from 2023 to 2024, Fox 26 reported.

Tennessee’s capital and its largest city, Nashville reported 1,124 violent crimes per 100,000 people; local police face a shortage of 100 officers, and leaders have struggled to increase staffing, the Nashville Banner reported.

Denver saw 993 violent crimes per 100,000 people, according the FBI.

Violent crime was recorded at 926 per 100,000 in the nation’s capital, which is governed by Mayor Muriel Bowser (D). Officials said violent crime is down by 27 percent and at a 30-year low after reaching all-time highs during the pandemic.

The reason Trump isn't sending troops to red states — despite their 'rates of violent crime'

    excerpt:

"When Tennessee's Republican governor, Bill Lee, dispatched his National Guard troops to Washington to support President Trump's crackdown on crime," Chen reports, "Democrats and other critics wondered why he didn't keep them within state lines. Memphis, after all, has long been one of the most dangerous cities in the country, with a murder rate about twice as high as the nation's capital, according to FBI statistics. Nashville has a higher rate of violent crime than Washington as well."

Judge rules against Trump's use of National Guard in California.

Trump's use of National Guard in Los Angeles illegal, judge rules

    excerpt:

"US District Judge Charles Breyer ruled on Tuesday that the way the government had used the troops violated the Posse Comitatus Act, which limits the power of the federal government to use military force for domestic matters."

Trump administration is reportedly canceling all Palestinian visas as a U.N. assembly meeting in NY in September approaches where countries will announce recognition of a Palestinian state.

US reportedly suspends visa approvals for nearly all Palestinian passport holders

    excerpt:

"The United States has suspended visa approvals for nearly everyone who holds a Palestinian passport, the New York Times reported on Sunday.

The restrictions go beyond those Donald Trump’s administration had previously announced on visitors from Gaza. They would prevent Palestinians from traveling to the United States for medical treatment, attending college and business travel, the newspaper reported, citing unidentified officials."
