Away from Gmail | etcetera Hmmmm he is concerned about Gmail privacy but he sends all email to Apple anyway, which means its also available to law enforcement,etc... Perhaps he doesnt realise??
Most people avoid it because of privacy concerns. However many are unaware that email is not private and was not created for that purpose, regardless of the providers.
You can make email private using pgp key pairs, there are still some meta-data issues with ip addresses and email headers though.
Yes I have heard that but IS IT 100% uncrackable by the feds? I dont think they would give anything anything THEY COULDNT READ!!
You can really get into Internet privacy, down to running virtualized systems, all open-source software, trying to avoid backdoored hardware (though frankly, how would you know?)... Really it's all such a hassle, and I have a suspicion that obfuscation might make interested parties more curious about you—to the extent that such a thing is real. Though if the guy just wants to say F Google out of principle, I get it.
Gone are the days when you had to place an advert in a shop window. "Large chest to sale, or can be rented by the hour".
