One more good tidal wave could pollute half of Japan. The executives of the company that ran Fukushima, were all indicted on corruption charges, five years prior to the meltdown. Thanks to Fukushima, the north pole is now radioactive, while a stream of radioactive materials circles the bottom of the Pacific.

The UN would say something, but the US provides half their funding, and everyone knows just exactly how thick as a brick Americans are, and that it would make no difference. A representative of the industry was online when it was melting down, and kept bragging about their safety record and environmental impact. Thankfully, we're developing the technology to use robots to clean up radioactive waste in the environment, but there's nothing that can be done about Fukushima itself, which must be entombed.
e Few people fully understand the exact reason for the meltdown. Huge quantities of water are required to cool the reactors, which is why power stations are built on the coast, allowing the use of seawater. However this requires massive pumps. The tsunami knocked out the national grid, leaving the power station with a power cut and unable to run these pumps. They were generating, but the output was delta and stepped up to around 300,000 volts connected to the HV grid. Therefore it was of no use internally. To resolve potential problems each unit had emergency diesel generators and while they were within the bund wall, their fuel tanks were not. Fuel tanks require an air vent at the top, to allow air in as the fuel is consumed. These vents are U shaped to prevent the egress of rain water, but once the flood water level reached the top or the tanks a small quantity of water entered and sank to the bottom. Obviously, the supply to the generators is from the bottom of the tanks, but it is about a foot up. This allows any sludge and water from contamination or condensation to be drained via a valve at the bottom of the tanks. When he power failed, the generators cut in automatically, but since the tanks had not been drained of water the pipework, diesel pumps and injectors filled with water, shutting them down. They could have been purged quite easily, but the power station staff had neither the knowledge, training, or tools to carry it out. The most stupid part was that had the power station been fitted with tansformes on the HV output, to supply 415/240v star, the station would have been self sufficient and none of this would have happened. For the amusement of HF members who know me. I fully understood all this by being with my late father during the construction and commissioning of nuclear power stations in the UK. At the time, I was 9 years old.
