Judge blocks Trump’s election executive order, siding with Democrats

    excerpt:

Judge Denise J. Casper of the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts said in Friday’s order that the states had a likelihood of success as to their legal challenges.

“The Constitution does not grant the President any specific powers over elections,” Casper wrote.

    Gunboat diplomacy at its extreme.

The attack happened during the middle of talks. Another meeting was scheduled for this weekend and won't happen because of Israel's strikes on Iran.

RFK Jr. sent Congress junk science to defend vaccine changes.

Kennedy’s HHS Sent Congress ‘Junk Science’ To Defend Vaccine Changes, Experts Say - KFF Health News

    excerpt:

One health expert called the document “willful medical disinformation” about the safety of covid vaccines for children and pregnant women.

“It is so far out of left field that I find it insulting to our members of Congress that they would actually give them something like this. Congress members are relying on these agencies to provide them with valid information, and it’s just not there,” said Mark Turrentine, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Trump vows changes to immigration crackdown to protect migrant farmers, hotel workers

    excerpt:

Democrats seized on Trump's new posture. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Washington, in a post on X, wrote: "Step 1: Trump creates a problem Step 2: Blames it on Joe Biden, who isn’t even president Step 3: Posts a rant about his solution — which doesn’t actually offer a solution."

Jayapal added: "Yes, our country and economy rely on immigrants. How is he just figuring that out?"

Judge allows Trump administration to continue to detain Mahmoud Khalil

    excerpt:

ICE also denied a request last week for Khalil to be moved from Louisiana to a facility closer to his family, with no explanation, emails show. The agency’s own policy requires detaining noncitizen parents or legal guardians, who are primary caretakers or have custody of minor children, in facilities close to their children.

“ICE’s directive recognizes that the government should have no role in destroying the family unit, and yet that is exactly what is happening here,” said Nora Ahmed, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana, which is part of Khalil’s legal team.

Khalil met his son for the first time last month, his attorneys said, just before an immigration hearing.

Judge allows Trump administration to continue to detain Mahmoud Khalil

    excerpt:

Brett Max Kaufman, a senior staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents Khalil, said that the move is an attempt from the Trump administration to "delay justice for Mahmoud."

“The government practically never holds people in detention on a charge like this, and it’s clear that the government is doing anything they can to punish Mahmoud for his speech about Palestine," Kaufman said. "We will not stop until he’s home with his family.”

Trump tries to overturn his NY criminal conviction.

Judges probe whether immunity decision leads to wipeout of Trump conviction

    excerpt:

“It seems to me that we got a very big case that created a whole new world of presidential immunity,” said Judge Myrna Pérez, an appointee of former President Biden, “and that the boundaries are not clear at this point.”

Trump argues he is entitled to a federal forum to make his case the jury’s guilty verdict must be tossed in light of the Supreme Court’s subsequent ruling granting broad criminal immunity to former presidents.

The president’s lawyers concede he is not immune from the 34 felonies themselves, but they contend prosecutors improperly included immunized evidence during the trial, such as a White House aide’s testimony and Trump’s social media posts.

Democratic lawmaker killed and another wounded in Minnesota in ‘politically motivated’ attacks

    excerpt:

"A prominent Democratic state lawmaker in Minnesota and her husband have been killed in a politically motivated shooting, and another Democratic state lawmaker and his wife were shot in the early hours of Saturday.

Democratic state representative Melissa Hortman has died, as has her husband, Mark, the state’s governor, Tim Walz, confirmed at a press conference on Saturday. He said the shooting “appears to be a politically motivated assassination”. Hortman was the top Democrat in the Minnesota house and the former speaker.

‘“No Kings” protests against the Trump administration are set for midday at the Minnesota state capitol and around the country.

The Minnesota state patrol and Walz asked the public to not attend planned demonstrations across Minnesota today “out of an abundance of caution”. The state patrol shared a photo of “No Kings” flyers, saying it was from inside the shooting suspect’s vehicle."
