Not sure if the word is used all that much these days. Not sure if folks even know what the heck it is or for. Gut microbiota would be a starting point to looking up what could possibly be housed in your digestive tract. Don't be alarmed by the word 'bacteria'. They are not all pathogens. The last time I cleansed was for a procedure. There's nothing unusual about it. It required me to drink something awful so that the lower intestinal tract would be free of bacteria. I could only consume electrolyte beverages or liquids that were nearly colorless. So, what would you like to put back into the body once everything has been removed and the procedural outcome was given the gold(en) star of approval? I imagine you'd want things that non-inflammatory or non-allergenic. I also try to eat or drink things that don't have added sugars or salts. Choose your fats wisely. So, where on earth would or should a person focus attention when putting back 'stuff' after a cleanse? I'm guessing I'd probably get a look at protein. For some reason, I assume that proteins from plant-based (i.e., non-animal sources) would be the best choices. They would not doubt have healthy oils (for your fat component) and they generally pack some good fiber. Cleansing is something that can be beneficial, but I would not recommend doing it with any frequency unless you are under the care of a licensed or certified practitioner.
Eating a lot of fermented foods is an excellent way to add a myriad of varieties of excellent bacteria to the gut. Probiotics are responsible for strengthening and sustaining a healthy and robust immune system. In the past 10 years or so, medicine has been diving a lot deeper into the mysteries that still exist throughout the gastrointestinal tract. They've figured out that healthy bacteria equals a healthy body. Everyone should be able to have their gut bacteria examined once to twice a year. If imbalances are detected, they could be supplemented with specialized probiotic capsules, and suggestions could be made to enhance the diet.
That's so true about gut bacteria. You are what you eat. If I could I would eat mostly raw foods... I eat yogurt religiously. The other fermented products I consume are tempeh and vinegars in salad dressings I make.
Yeah, I eat yogurt religiously too! Kimchi, tempeh, vinegars - all great stuff. I also have a neighbour who gifts me once in awhile with jars of mixed fermented vegetables. They're so delicious! I do eat a lot of vegetables in general, cooked and raw in salads. Eating a variety of foods is great for good health. I agree that we really are what we eat
We are. I make everything at home. We have fruit, vegetables, cereal, rice etc every day. It is quite easy for us because as some of you already know we have salad with one of a number of dressings made fresh every day, a main course meat free with always at least 2 veg and pudding of fresh fruit and greek yoghurt. Sometimes we have a hot pudding in winter especially if we have been gifted a load of apples or rhubarb.
Getting back to the original point about cleansing: I personally don't feel the need because I think with the correct diet, gut bacteria should be doing their job just fine.
