The voting public could have continued the current course with Harris of a rational, incremental approach that has yielded lower interest rates, lower inflation, and lower unemployment as the world recovered from the pandemic that Trump badly botched.

Instead, it opted to go for 'Door Number Three' of Let's Make a Deal to take a chance at becoming wealthy by dealmaker Trump or being zonked by him again with a booby prize.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2024/11/12/pete-hegseth-trump-pentagon-defense-00189182

    excerpt:

"Hegseth helped capture Trump’s attention on a military case that led, in 2019, to full pardons for former Army 1st Lt. Clint Lorance and Maj. Mathew Golsteyn, both convicted of war crimes. Additionally, Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, who had been stripped of military honors during his prosecution for murder charges, had his promotion reinstated."

Hegseth has been a cheerleader for Trump in defending American troops who were accused of criminal acts.

Hegseth published a book “The War on Our Warriors.”

    Trump's preemptive pardons.

    Article from November 2019.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2019/11/15/trump-pardon-war-crimes-071244

    excerpt:

"But Golsteyn’s pardon also struck some as going too far by meddling in an ongoing legal proceeding.

“In the Golsteyn case, it’s disappointing that the process is being cut off before it reached its conclusion,” said Bob Wilson, a retired colonel who commanded a Green Beret contingent in Afghanistan as well as the 3rd Special Forces Group, the unit to which Golsteyn belonged.

“It’s not appropriate, and the military is owed better than for that process to be cut short for sound bites on cable news and political purposes,” he added."

Wait until tRump lines up all the riot-teers, pardons them, gives them all the Medal of Freedom - and gives them a big fat settlement check from our new tariffs....you KNOW it's going to happen. His only impediment will be taking the time from golf to sign all those pardon documents.

After his anticipated pardoning of him, Trump can be expected to award the QAnon Shaman the Presidential Medal Of Freedom at the State Of The Union Address, like he did to Rush Limbaugh. The Shaman can be there in his full costume.

    The End of American Exceptionalism

    excerpt:

"Advisers such as Trump’s son-in-law and White House aide Jared Kushner and Richard Grenell, a former ambassador and acting director of national intelligence, leveraged the ties they made as policymakers to secure billions in foreign investment (including from foreign government investment funds) and real estate deals almost immediately after they left office. It will not be surprising if foreign benefactors approach Trump’s coterie of advisers with implicit and explicit promises of lucrative deals after their time in office—as long as they play ball while in power. Combine this with the expected role that billionaires such as Elon Musk will play in Trump 2.0, and one can foresee a dramatic increase in the corruption of U.S. foreign policy."

Trump's 'minister of everything' son-in-law, Kushner, scored a few billion dollars in a startup company funded mostly by Saudis after Trump left office.

Kushner wasn't a billionaire during Trump's first term.

Now Musk is going to have an active role in a second Trump term. He already has the perception of being Trump's new 'minister of everything'. Musk is worth about $250 billion.

Trump is assigning Musk to be in charge of a department of government efficiency.

Musk says he wants to cut $2 trillion from the budget. He acknowledged publicly that the cuts are going to hurt.

That's sure to help all of Trump's left-behinder and down-and-outers.

Trump says Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will head a new ‘Department of Government Efficiency’

    excerpt:

"Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is among the wealthiest people in the world and the owner of the social media platform X. Even though he is a newcomer to electoral politics, his super PAC spent more than $152 million to elect Trump and other Republicans this year.

SpaceX has $3.6 billion in contracts with federal agencies this year, according to government data. It's not clear whether that spending is on the table for possible cuts."

It's another new federal government department in the executive branch that sounds like it will suggest what to cut in the federal budget without having the power to do it (which could be called another addition to the federal bureaucracy that it's trying to reduce).

Congress passes legislation that determines the budget.

    excerpt:

"His plan includes banning "urban camping," returning people to "mental institutions where they belong," and relocating people to government-sanctioned tent cities.

Experts say this law-and-order approach has already been tried, and failed.

"Independent of whether you think it's a good idea, I just don't see that happening," says Keith Humphreys, professor of psychology who studies addiction medicine at Stanford University."

    excerpt:

"Humphreys notes that continued progress in this direction is possible, but the federal government would need to continue investing in known strategies around public health rather than a law and order approach, or destabilizing the Affordable Care Act, as some in Trump's party have proposed. If investment goes in that direction, Humphries predicts, "these problems are going to get worse.""

Trump himself is a large destabilizing force in the U.S.

Trump's insurrection at the Capitol is an example of his destabilizing influence. He infected the public with lies until they eventually became violent with some giving up their life for him. Another example is a Trump supporter who broke into Pelosi's house and fractured Paul Pelosi's skull with a hammer.

One of Trump's rioters died at the Capitol by overdosing on amphetamines.

Yet Trump thinks he's going to solve these types of psychological problems by using law enforcement tactics. That in itself is flippant when considering the psychosis he caused that made his supporters attack law enforcement officials at the Capitol.
