Trump consistently lies that import tariffs are money that comes from other countries into the U.S.

He can be caught in his lies by the fact that he chose to not impose tariffs on clothing imports. Trump said he exempted clothing imports because it would cause too much damage on Americans. It's an admission that he knows tariffs are damaging, and it would damage his clothing import business significantly.

How President-Elect Trump’s Win Could Impact Grocery Prices

    excerpt:

“We allow a lot of farm product into our country. We’re going to have to be a little bit lie other countries. We’re not going to allow so much — we’re going to let our farmers go to work,” Trump announced in a Michigan town hall at the time.

Tariffs are taxes placed upon imported foreign products, and the companies importing those goods pay those taxes. However, because those tariffs costs the importers more money, they then in turn raise the prices of their goods.

Trump uses the same tactics as TV evangelists and their prosperity theology, and the public keeps falling for it.

The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers was published in 1956 at the end of the McCarthy era. It's symbolic of how part of a population can get carried away by a cult-like political personality.

The Trump era is the McCarthy era on steroids. It's been going nine years and is set to go at least another four, compared to McCarthy who had a good run for a few years and then petered out.

Trump's shunning of transition planning may have severe consequences, governance group says

    excerpt:

"The president-elect's transition is being led by Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick and Linda McMahon, the former wrestling executive who led the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term. They said last month that they expected to sign agreements beginning the formal transition process with the Biden White House and the General Services Administration, which acts essentially as the federal government's landlord."

Gasoline prices were near $3 per gallon in various parts of the U.S. going into the 2024 election while Trump and his associates were talking like it was $6.

Now that Trump has been reelected, his supporters are overjoyed that gas is down to $2.95 from $3, supposedly due to Trump, and now they can sleep again.

Penn State has a home football game today, I'll be seeing lots of these things heading up Rt. 322.

Good to see Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and his (flying the U.S. flag upside-down) wife can afford gasoline again. Otherwise, they'd still be stuck in their unreported giant $267,000 luxury RV, whose questionable loan was underwritten by a wealthy friend, in the parking lot of the Walmart where Thomas says he hangs out to chum with the low-income people.

Opinion | Stop Pretending Trump Is Not Who We Are
    By Carlos Lozada
    Nov. 6, 2024

    https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/06/opinion/trump-wins-harris-loses.html

    excerpt:

"Harris decried Trump as a fascist, a petty tyrant. She called him divisive, angry, aggrieved. And that was a smart case to make if, deep down, most voters held democracy dear (except maybe they didn’t) and if so many of them weren’t already angry (except they were). If all America needed was an articulate case for why Trump was bad, then Harris was the right candidate with the right message at the right moment. The prosecutor who would defeat the felon.

But the voters heard her case, and they still found for the defendant. A politician who admires dictators and says he’ll be one for a day, whom former top aides regard as a threat to the Constitution — a document he believes can be “terminated” when it doesn’t suit him — has won power not for one day but for nearly 1,500 more. What was considered abnormal, even un-American, has been redefined as acceptable and reaffirmed as preferable."

    Trump projected to win Arizona.

He won all of the seven swing states (AZ, NV, WI, MI, PA, GA, NC)

The GOP appears to be on track for winning the House. It has already won the Senate.

The murky loan that Anthony Welters gave to Clarence Thomas.

Welters is estimated to have a net worth of $91 million.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/05/us/clarence-thomas-rv-anthony-welters.html

    excerpt:

"But despite repeated requests over nearly two weeks, Mr. Welters did not answer further questions essential to understanding his arrangement with Justice Thomas.

He would not say how much he had lent Justice Thomas, how much the justice had repaid and whether any of the debt had been forgiven or otherwise discharged. He declined to provide The Times with a copy of a loan agreement — or even say if one existed. Nor would he share the basic terms of the loan, such as what, if any, interest rate had been charged or whether Justice Thomas had adhered to an agreed-upon repayment schedule. And when asked to elaborate on what he had meant when he said the loan had been “satisfied,” he did not respond.

“‘Satisfied’ doesn’t necessarily mean someone paid the loan back,” said Michael Hamersley, a tax lawyer and expert who has testified before Congress. “‘Satisfied’ could also mean the lender formally forgave the debt, or otherwise just stopped pursuing repayment.”"

Donald Trump is a superspreader of a craziness that has split America in two
In displaying all the signs that he is off his rocker, the Republican candidate has infected millions of others

Donald Trump is a superspreader of a craziness that has split America in two | Simon Tisdall

    excerpt:

"Narcissism, hedonism, obsession, a need to provoke, scare, shock and scandalise, and chronic, paranoid feelings of victimhood are all indicators of worsening mental imbalance, if not early-onset imbecility. Recent Trump lunacies include claims that flies are buzzing round his head for “suspicious” reasons, North Korea is trying to kill him, the 6 January riot was a “lovefest”, pet-eating migrants are akin to Hannibal Lecter, and that God saved him in the assassination attempt on his life.

If Trump were to go mad on his own time, no problem. Unfortunately, by publicly projecting and displaying mental dysfunction daily on a national stage, he is driving America nuts, too – fans and foes alike. He brings out the worst in everyone, right and left. It could be termed national derangement syndrome (NDS)."f

‘America’s gone mad’: disbelief in Ayrshire, Scotland, near Trump’s golf course

    excerpt:

"Further down the windswept beach, Elizabeth Cogan is taking her jack russell Molly for a stroll. She is also quick to acknowledge the investment Trump has made in the local economy. But as a world leader? “It’s a total disaster: he’s a fascist, he’s against women, he’s homophobic, he’s racist. It is a shock because I thought people would have come to their senses and realised what kind of man he is."
