Trump allies to meet with right-wing sheriffs group. ‘Danger to our democracy’: fears over Trump allies’ summit with far-right sheriffs
Some are making an assumption that Trump won't be even more fringe than he was during his first term. Business and a Second Trump Term excerpt: "If Donald Trump wins a second term, he has promised to govern as no modern president has, imposing steep tariffs, rounding up immigrants, freeing Jan. 6 rioters and possibly pulling out of NATO. Trump has signaled that he will accomplish all this by appointing loyalists, rather than the more moderate military leaders and corporate executives from his first term."
Republicans trust Trump more about the war in Ukraine than the Pentagon and the State Department. Trump Shockingly Finishes First In New Poll — And It's Not About The Election excerpt: "Nearly 80% of Republicans take the criminally indicted former president at his word on the conflict. Meanwhile, 60% of Republicans trust the Pentagon, putting the military source a little ahead of Fox News and other conservative media, which came in at 56%. A mere 33% trusted journalists reporting from the war zone, while 27% put faith in the State Department."
During the eclipse of 2017 in the U.S., an aide near Trump was giving out warnings to not stare at the eclipse (like Trump was doing). Trump posts bizarre solar eclipse ad – with his head blocking out the sun, plunging US into darkness excerpt: "While Melania and Barron both sported eclipse glasses, the former president was seen staring repeatedly at the eclipse without proper eye protection. At one point, an aide was heard shouting “don’t look” while Melania also appeared to encourage her husband to put on the protective eyewear. Looking directly at an eclipse without protective glasses can lead to severe eye damage and even blindness."
It wouldn't be surprising that Trump's current trouble with reading teleprompters is due in part to eye damage from staring at solar eclipses without proper eyewear.
Powell and six other members of a clan of Trump's stolen election truthers lose again in the U.S. Supreme Court. Supreme Court leaves sanctions in place against Sidney Powell and others over 2020 election suit in Michigan excerpt: "Washington — The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to take up a bid by a group of Trump-allied lawyers who faced monetary and professional sanctions in Michigan as a result of their baseless claims raised in a lawsuit that the 2020 presidential election was rife with fraud. The one-line order from the high court rejecting the appeals brought by lawyers Sidney Powell, Lin Wood and five others leaves in place a decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit that partially upheld the penalties imposed in the wake of the last presidential contest."
Lynn Wood had already asked the U.S. Supreme Court to undo the sanctions against him and lost. Eastman is currently trying to recover his law license so that he can defend other stolen election truthers who he says need his help. What a great excuse to give a judge. It's part of why he lost his license. https://www.reuters.com/legal/legal...nction-over-2020-us-election-case-2023-11-08/ https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/05/politics/john-eastman-legal-bills/index.html
President of Poland symbolically gives nod to Trump during Trump's criminal trial. Duda reportedly will have dinner with Trump in NY. https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/16/politics/donald-trump-trial-narrative-analysis/index.html excerpt: "The current trial is not televised, meaning that Trump is deprived of a platform. But that restriction does allow him to mount a misleading daily commentary on what is taking place inside the courtroom that is likely to be the most that many viewers of conservative media learn about the case. In line with the four-day-a-week schedule for the trial, proceedings will halt on Wednesday. Trump is expected to have dinner with Polish President Andrzej Duda, a nationalist who was one of the ex-president’s favorite foreign leaders during his term. Criminal defendants don’t generally take a break from their trials to sup with visiting presidents. The visit will be another reminder of the extraordinary circumstances of an election entangled with Trump’s legal fate and may be seen as a highly symbolic endorsement by Duda of his friend during his hour of need."
U.S. Senate dismisses GOP impeachment of Homeland Security director without trial. The GOP impeached him after failing to impeach Biden. An embarrassing amount of information about Trump taking about $8 million from foreign governments was uncovered during the House hearings on Biden which produced nothing on Biden. Senate Dismisses Impeachment Charges Against Mayorkas Without a Trial
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/04/17/trump-trial-new-york-bodega-00152892 excerpt: "The visit, said Hank Sheinkopf, a longtime Democratic strategist based in New York, was a signature example of Trump using “national television coverage as an advertising tool without having to pay for the gross rating points.” “He’s very smart,” Sheinkopf said. “Anybody who understates his capacity to use PR as opposed to normative political techniques is wrong. He’s very good at it, and what it does … it wipes away the things that people are trying to do to undercut his capacities.” It’s hard to paint Trump as overburdened by the legal system, or absent from the campaign trail, or asleep in a courtroom, he said, when he is on a street in New York “smiling his ass off.”"
Trump spending campaign money on his cash-strapped businesses. Trump is funneling campaign money into cash-strapped businesses. Experts say it looks bad.
Looks like his stock DJT WENT UP today. At first it was up 20% but is now up around 13%. It looks like shorts getting out, likely to pile back in tomorrow. The more campaign money Trump funnels into his business, the less he has to actually campaign with. He can't even rent out large venues anymore. Nobody trusts him to pay so he has to put the money up front. And it looks like his MAGA acolytes are getting real tired of showing up everywhere he goes. No doubt that's expensive and repetitive.
Ciomplaint asks FBI to investigate mystery Trump $50 million loan. Complaint Asks the FBI to Probe Trump Claims on a $50 Million Loan excerpt: "The complaint comes after The Daily Beast first reported in January that the court-appointed special monitor in Trump’s New York business fraud case had buried a bombshell claim in a footnote to a status report: A mysterious $50 million loan, which Trump reported owing to one of his own LLCs, “never existed.”"
Trump is the type of person who would make a fictitious bad loan to himself and use it as a tax write-off.
Trump effectively was busted for the unreported freebies his CFO, Weisselberg, received for year at the Trump Organization. Weisselberg went to prison for that offense. Weisselberg is heading back to prison again. This time it's for two felony counts of perjury. Former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg sentenced for perjury excerpt: "Weisselberg pleaded guilty in March to two felony counts of perjury. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office said he admitted to giving false testimony regarding the size of former President Donald Trump's triplex apartment in New York during a July deposition."
